Woman, 76, hits two holes-in-one in same round

A 76-year-old widow is thought to have become the oldest golfer to achieve two holes-in-one during the same round.

Felicity Sieghart, of Aldeburgh, Suffolk, holed from the tee at the 134-yard eighth and 130-yard 17th while playing a club competition at Aldeburgh Golf Club.

Officials say they can find no record of anyone of Mrs Sieghart's age achieving such a feat.

"From what we can discover this is more unusual than winning the lottery," said the club's Ladies' Captain Eve Calvert.

"A hole-in-one is very unusual. At an average club maybe there would be two in a year. But two holes-in-one during a round in a competition is incredible.

"You occasionally read of someone getting two holes-in-one when you're reading a Sunday newspaper but it's so rare. We certainly think it is a record for somebody her age. I've never heard of it before."

Mrs Calvert added: "Felicity has been playing golf all her life. She plays off about 26 at the moment but in her time her handicap has been a lot lower. This was no fluke. These were two very good shots.

"We presented her with a bottle of champagne and we have a record book dating back to 1884 in which we record all the outstanding achievements at the club and what she has done will be recorded in that."

Mrs Sieghart, who ran the Aldeburgh cinema for eight years before retiring last year, said the shots left her "completely fazed".

"I've never heard of anyone getting two holes-in-one before in the same round," said Mrs Sieghart, who began playing golf in her 30s. "I've had several holes-in-one before. I've been lucky. But nothing like this."

My eleven year old son has just begun playing golf with his dad. We even got him his own set of children's golf clubs and he is now starting to watch golf on the television. If I watch golf on the television, it doesn't take me long before I fall asleep.
