BERLIN - American actor Johnny Depp (news) likened his native country to a "dumb puppy that has big teeth" in an interview published Wednesday, ridiculing Washington's confrontation with France, where he lives, over the war in Iraq (news - web sites).
The "Edward Scissorhands" and "Sleepy Hollow" star, who spends much of his time in the south of France with his companion, Vanessa Paradis (news), and their two small children, told the German magazine he couldn't see himself paying more than short visits to his Los Angeles residence in the present political climate.
"America is dumb, is something like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive," Depp was quoted as saying.
Depp recalled that French fries were renamed "Freedom" fries in the House cafeteria on Capitol Hill at the height of U.S. anger over France's refusal to back the administration of President George W. Bush (news - web sites) over the war in Iraq.
"Nothing made me happier than when I read that grown men and grown women in positions of power in the United States government," Depp said. "I was ecstatic because they revealed themselves as idiots."
Depp said he wanted his two children, ages 1 and 4, to experience the United States "like it's a kind a toy a broken toy maybe. Investigate a little bit, check it out, get this feeling and then get out."

Riding high from the success of
Pirates of The Caribbean, Johnny Depp celebrates by viciously slamming his foot into his mouth.
Thanks, Johnny. You just made Robert Rodriguez very happy.

Oh no! Johnny Depp is mad at America. Whatever shall we do? His opinion is just so very important. [/sarchasm]
Move along. Its just another left wing, Hollyweird idiot spouting off.
To: Houmatt
If I could say it to him directly: Johnny, congratulations on insulting millions of your customers that make your lifestyle possible. I've personally never gone to see (read: buy a ticket) for the "art" you create and can't imagine doing so anytime soon. Congratulations on joining the ranks of others I'd never spend one dime on their products or any products you would endorse. Trust me, life has still been beautiful without supporting the likes of: The Dixie Chicks, Julia Roberts, Garafolo, Ed Asner, and countless others.
Finally Johnny, I've got to say that as an American you have the right to say whatever you want, a freedom in this country paid in blood. You can insult America, Americans, our Government, etc. Just remember that many of us will no longer support you in the success you've acheived in this great country.

These Hollywood morons truly have no idea just how stupid they are. Perhaps they are beginning to get some idea. Regardless, however, we (Americans) are taking notice. And the dufus Depp's cannot stand the fact that while we might enjoy watching them play like they are significant on a big screen, we could care less what actually comes out of their mouths.
So, by all means, Mr. Depp, keep venturing your unsolicited opinions to we proud Americans. But beware that you might learn what value they and you actually have among us.
You're a prostitute of the screen, performing like a clown for our amusement...
... and nothing more.

Like who cares what anyone from Hollywood has to say about anything. It's kind of funny that they all think we care so much about them, that we want to hear their political views. There job in life is to act and make good and entertaining movies. In my opinon Johnny has failed with a couple of his movies. Where does he get off anyhow, living in France like he does. My opinion..he should just sit home and eat FRENCH fries and drink FRENCH wine and keep his mouth shut.
To: LibertyThug
I think it would be easier for him to shut up than act.

Of course he doesn't care. If I had millions in the bank and a house in Southern France, I may not care what people think either. He's real brave. I don't give a good g.d. what he thinks. Do you respect me?

"If I could say it to him directly: Johnny, congratulations on insulting millions of your customers that make your lifestyle possible. I've personally never gone to see (read: buy a ticket) for the "art" you create and can't imagine doing so anytime soon." BINGO!
Johnny should also know I am a huge DVD buyer! (We rarely go to the movies since our A/V system is much better than the local theaters.) We were recommended Pirates by a lot of our movie going friends but alas for Johnny and his ilk "that" movie just got removed from our must purchase list.
Also removed are all his past movies we intended to buy as well as all his future movies.

Recently, when a local a local radio host in New York "Bob Grant" was on vacation I heard this. The the guest host (whose name excapes me) quoted a magazine in Europe that stated this horses ass either smokes pot with his kids, so I assume they are not just 1&4, or he plans on smoking pot with his kids when they get older because "at least he will know they are getting pot not laced with other drugs that could kill them". I wish I could be more specific but the crux of what I wrote is very true if in fact the guest host on the radio truly was quoting a paper who interviewed this idiot. Depp has been known to be a little strange and this only further confirms same. What a jerk.

Johnny Depp - wasn't he in a cartoon series called "Scooby-Doo" or something? You know, the guy with the scraggly beard and about 40% as smart as the dog.
He should be afraid of puppies with large teeth. Most of them are smarter and more aggressive.

No kidding. You would think this guy's fellow actors and the director of the film currently in theaters would tell the clown to keep his mouth shut at least until the movie made some money for them. He'll be in France for a while, because if his statements hurt the box office, the offers will not exactly be rolling in.

Methinks you might have spoke too soon the other night.Up until now, I had not read anything about his political views or personal life (since I really don't care what actors have to say off screen, I don't read entertainment magazines or watch these ET-type shows). I think it was our sister who said he doesn't live in Hollywood, he lives in France, etc. I like most of his movies -- but this changes what I think of him personally. Still he's a darn good-looking guy.
