Big Brothers and Big Sisters are making an insane decision.

I hate the new ad Big Brothers put out, "You don't have to be a saint to be a Big Brother," or something of the sort. You have to be able to know how to "give wedgies" and other tasteless skills. It's like they are looking for "non-saint" people to prey on kids.

This is insane but at least now they are being out in the open about their poor screening practices. An acquaintance of mine has been a child psychologist therapist for the past 30 years.

She told me five years ago that the Big Sisters and Big Brothers Organizations, as well as certain other groups are well known magnets for pedophiles, no matter the so-called screening. I thought that she was being a bit over-cautious, even paranoid. Some will say that pedophiles do not predominantly come from the homosexual community or that in fact, pedophiles tend to be mostly very sick, twisted, mentally ill heterosexuals.

Yet here is an example of Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organizations' very poor screening practices, which is bad enough in itself, and it's in black and white. Thanks for posting this.

Actually, they do allow opposite sex mentors quite frequently. The problem is that they can't get enough straight men to volunteer, and they have an overwhelming demand to mentor boys. Thus, they do assign women (and gay men) to mentor boys. It would be nice if some of the straight men who are spending their time whining on this thread about this decision would get off their butts and go down to their local BBBSA office to volunteer!
