Support Fisher House
The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need by providing homes close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There are currently 31 houses located on the grounds of every major military medical center and several VA medical centers. These houses will play a critical role in caring for casualties from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Donations will be used to help meet the cost of lodging for a family whose loved one was injured in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is a limit to the number of families who can stay in a Fisher House and program is committed to help provide lodging for families who must find commercial lodging, because the Fisher House is full.

Good Morning Radix! Great thread! Good morning to our military and good morning to the whole Canteen crew.

Warm up exercise for today . . . . .

It’s for you. . .

Having just moved into his new office, a pompous, new colonel was sitting at his desk when an airman knocked on the door.

Conscious of his new position, the colonel quickly picked up the phone, told the airman to enter, then said into the phone, "Yes, General, I will be seeing him this afternoon and I will pass along your message. In the meantime, thank you for your good wishes, sir."

Feeling as though he had sufficiently impressed the young enlisted man, he asked, "What do you want?"

"Nothing important, sir," the airman replied. "Just here to hook up your telephone."

Today's FEEBLE attempt at humor:

The young boy asked his father what IQ was.

"It is a measure of intelligence" said the father.  "A person with an IQ of over 120 is very
very smart".  "With an IQ of 100, well that is about average, and with an IQ of say 50, well you would be too dumb to even tie your shoelaces".

"I see", said the boy, "Is that why Iraqui's wear thongs?"

To: All; TexasCowboy; The Mayor
Good Morning everybody! Good Morning troops! First of all, thanks to those who sent me the freep-mails:Beachn4fun and SouthernHawk, and thank you to those that I didn't get a chance to reply to last night, I was sleeping.

I am going to do an unusual humor attempt this morning. If any of you guys remember from yesterday, Tex was being a pain, and he was putting out brush fires using cats, BBQing cats, he made a cat cookbook, cat goulash, and there was probably more, I just don't remember. And The Mayor was his accomplice, though he denies it. So I threatened to call PETA and told Tex I'd call 'em today. So for my humor attempt, I am going to post a copy of my PETA phone call:

Me:Helllo? Is this the PETA people
PETA: Yes, who is this?
Me: Minor49er. I'd like to report two people who are being mean to animals.
PETA: Oh really! This will be an accomplishment for both of us. What are there names?
Me: Well, one goes by the name of Texas Cowboy, and the other goes by the name The Mayor.
PETA: And where can we find these people?
Me: At the USO Canteen.
PETA: And where is that?
Me: I don't lnow. Somewhere, I guess.
PETA: Very well, we will be there shortly.
Me: Alright, see you there.
end of phone call.
Not the worlds greatest phone conversation, but it achieved it's purpose.

Reference MLKJr's speech:

"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today."

The SCOTUS has blocked that part of the "dream". Color counts particularly if you're trying for admission to college!

Oh, well! Hope everyone has had their fill of pancakes today. (I have this yen for .....(dare I say it) Waffles!

Religious History
1660 Following England's Restoration, books by poet John Milton were ordered burned because of his attacks on the monarchy. Milton had advocated an elder-ruled (presbyterian) church government over that of bishop-ruled (episcopal).
1830 English churchman John Henry Cardinal Newman wrote in a letter: 'It is our great relief that God is not extreme to mark what is done amiss, that He looks at the motives, and accepts and blesses in spite of incidental errors.'
1865 Rhenish missionary Ludwig I. Nommensen, 31, baptized four families of the Batak tribe in North Sumatra (Indonesia) the first to be converted to the Christian faith. Nommensen later established a theological training school and in 1878 completed a translation of the New Testament into the Batak language.
1876 At age 13, future English clergyman G. Campbell Morgan preached his first sermon. He later grew to become one of the most famous expository preachers and writers of late 19th century England and America.
1877 Birth of Lloyd C. Douglas, American Lutheran clergyman and religious novelist. Douglas published his first best-seller, "Magnificent Obsession," in 1929, followed later by "The Robe" (1942) and "The Big Fisherman" (1948).
