"Ever notice the fact that most of these anti-American stories start out quoting some "ex-serviceman"?"
Yes I have. There seems to be an increasing trend to treat off-the-cuff remarks by servicemen - "ex" or otherwise - as "news." Since servicemen make comments that run the gamut from perceptive to idiotic, you can create just about any story you want in this way. It's called "spin."

I always enjoy the ones that are out right lies. Like the "Vietnam Vet" that was never east of Fort Drum or the "Korean Vet" that claimed he saw Americans killing unarmed civilians and then it turns out he wasn't there. The media did't have to much to say on that little nugget of news

There were a lot of parents in the area, seeing their kids get settled in dorm rooms. Don't you know they had second thoughts about leaving them in that environment. I saw several worried looking dads looking over their shoulders toward the park as I drove to the park.
The Times Dispatch always gives them excellent coverage, although they whine about it anyway. Jim Nelson complained he was selectively quoted so as not to sound rational. Well, he got the rational part right.

Thanks for the eye witness account. I would imagine the parents were alarmed. I remember how mine looked when we drove past a "Kool Aid Sunday" event when I was a teenager.
Of course, the next Sunday I was there.
VCU when the wackos are running wild is no place for a kid. All the parent's worst fears about the place are true.

Ummm, I didn't do a Kool Aid Sunday there, but back in '67, SDS had a table and tiny rally in Monroe Park. I signed up to demonstrate against the war (Vietnam). Only three of us, all female, showed up to protest in front of Miller & Rhodes, of all places. It was ok until two very tall & dignified young soldiers in uniform walked by us and read the signs. They didn't say a word but I was so ashamed of myself I could have died. Two years later, one of my brothers volunteered for duty over there. He survived, thank the Lord, and to this day I haven't told him what I did.
