It seems that lately, many conservative pundits have taken to lecturing and hectoring the base as to what they should and shouldn't think. Many of the columns are condescending and assume,apparently,that conservatives are turnipseeds that have just fallen off the truck.I think controlling and shaping the base to only think within the box, is as big an issue with some conservative pundits,as it is with the liberals.

You've encapsulated it perfectly. Pundits, whether right or left, like to think of themselves as "opinion makers." Another aspect of pundits is that when things are going well, they like to upset the applecart, simply to prove to themselves how powerful they are. I didn't know megolomania and narcissism were part of the characteristics of "conservativism." It seems the more individuals think for themselves, the more panicked the likes of Rush Limbaugh and George Will become.
