Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign to replace Gray Davis as California's next governor picked up an important endorsement this week from a big state governor who is wrestling with budgetary problems not all that different from those that plague the Golden State.
"Governor George Pataki of New York is supporting Schwarzenegger, and has plans to stump for him on the West Coast soon," the Republican Leadership Council said in a press release Monday. Pataki is the RLC's honorary chairman.
RLC Executive Director, Mary Heitman announced, "Arnold Schwarzenegger is the ideal type of Republican for California; he is fiscally conservative on the economic front, and believes in the importance of protecting individual rights and promoting strong families on the social spectrum."
"Schwarzenegger has the best chance of winning the recall of Governor Davis in October, she added.
If he wins the race, the action star-turned-politician will face fiscal problems of a far greater magnitude than those that confront Gov. Pataki. But the cause is the same - a state legislature with a penchant for out-of-control spending.
While the Empire State's own budget deficit remains alarmingly high, New Yorkers can thank Pataki's resistance to tax hikes and budget-busting spending sprees for keeping his state from turning into a California-like fiscal basket case.

You mean Arinold's support for MORE gun laws and "money for programs for all the people" didn't endear him to libertarians? Gee, all the Arinold supporters said he's really a staunch libertarian because he read "Free to Choose" 20 years ago or something like that. Obviously REAL libertarians disagree.
Not to worry though, with the Pataki endorsement, we can expect to see these "Republicans" on the Arinold bandwagon soon:
George H. Ryan (R)
Arnold will defeat the hard-right bastards in the party! I'm sure I can talk him into social justice for all the poor murderers on death row there. Right-wing scumbags actually believe in the rule of law, those SOBs!
Christie Todd Whitman (R)
Free to Choose? Well, I'm certainly for that-- especially if we providing funding for these poor unwed mothers to exercise their consitutional right. Arnold is a classy guy, righting for woman's rights within our opressive, male-dominated party!
Michael Bloomberg (R)
Yeeah, Arnie, you tell those right-wing kooks! We can't let them hold back our progressive agenda for America. I love the run with a "R" label, some of the those right-wing nuts might actually help you win-- worked for me! Come over any time, I got some good bongs to smoke.
