Believe it. Not unnamed officials, one of his top deputies, Powell. Before you go slam Powell, remember who is his boss, and that Powell doesn't make policy, he disseminates it.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Toughening his stand on construction of an Israeli security fence, Secretary of State Colin Powell said Thursday the administration would abide by congressional provisions for reducing U.S. aid to Israel for settlement activity on the West Bank.

"We have identified some problems" with the project and the administration will keep talking to Israel about them until there is a solution, Powell said at a news conference.

"We have concerns about that fence," Powell said. "We have problems with it."

Powell worries about Israeli fence
WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Colin Powell says he is concerned that the security fence Israel is building could impede peacemaking with the Palestinians.
"A nation is within its rights to put up a fence if it sees the need for one," Powell said in a broadcast to Arab countries. However, he said, "In the case of the Israeli fence, we are concerned when the fence crosses over onto the land of others."

Powell concern over Israeli fence
From correspondents in Washington
08aug03

US Secretary of State Colin Powell today renewed US concerns about Israel's controversial West Bank security barrier but said no decision had yet been whether the penalise Israel for its construction.

Powell said Washington remained worried that the barrier - which at some points is planned to intrude into Palestinian territory across the 1967 Green Line division between Israel and the West Bank - would complicate the delineation of borders for a Palestinian state.
Although US President George W Bush has said he understands Israel's desire to protect its citizens, Powell said the construction of the barrier should not be allowed to "prejudice anyone else's property, anyone else's rights".

"It's when the fence begins to intrude on land that is not on the Israeli side of the Green Line or starts to intrude in a way that makes it more difficult for us to make the case for a viable Palestinian state ... it is appropriate for us to say to our Israeli friends we have a problem here," he said.

"That's what we're doing," Powell told reporters in Washington.

Bush calls Israeli security fence 'a problem'

Crawford, Texas-AP -- President Bush is concerned that a security fence Israel is building could hurt efforts to make peace with the Palestinians.

Bush calls the fence "a problem." He says the US will continue to work on the issue.

The president told reporters in Crawford, Texas, that the key to peace is for both parties to create conditions that would build confidence. Bush says people then "will know their lives will be safe and prosperity can break out."

Bush spoke after meeting at his ranch with Secretary of State Colin Powell.

In a broadcast to Arab countries this week, Powell had signaled his disapproval of the Israeli security construction on the West Bank. Powell said the Israeli fence "crosses over onto the land of others

"Michael, what is your take on just flat assassinating Arafat? Would that be good, or would that just give the Pales a "martyr?"

So far, the Israelis have resisted the notion of taking Aerofat out for precisely that reason - that he would become a martyr of sorts and further inflame the Pallies, although it's difficult to imagine how much more incendiary they could be.

There has been an ongoing private debate over this very thing inside the Israeli government, but the "keep him alive" faction has won every time. Part of it is to not wish to appear to the other nations of the world as "barbaric," but Israel is not going to ever get to kiss THAT girl. The US is about the only true friend Israel has on the world stage.

Push is going to come to shove, I think, pretty soon on Aerophat as it becomes increasingly obvious that absolutely NOTHING Israel does will ever stop the Pally violence short of tremendously prejudicial brute force. The Pallies have known nothing but strife for pretty much all their lives - it's a normal situation for them. You have two entire generations whose entire existence has been lived in a self-perpetuating war...a war that they cannot possibly win. In fact, were they to actually "win" a war with Israel, they wouldn't know what to do. Fighting comes naturally to them, peace would be quite discomfiting. So they would, in that impossibly unlikely event, have to find a NEW enemy, any enemy, so as to resume "normalcy" (being engaged in a war).

The only real solution - now or 2000 years from now - is to put the Pallies down HARD, put Syria down HARD and push every last Pally into an occupied Syria/Lebanon, set 'em up a government and tell them to take it and make something of it or the place becomes a giant sheet of glass.

The first step is that Aerophat needs to have a terrible accident.

Michael

Whatever. Bush knows far more about "what's happening" in the middle east than you think. I have full confidence in him. I would like to see him make a blanket statement about terrorists in Pale., and say that we will treat them like terrorist anywhere else.

You challenged me to find actual named sources, and did - POTUS and SOS.

NOW you respond, "Whatever?"

He did make a blanked statement, on June 24, 2002. He's since gone back on every one of his demands of the Palestinian terrorists, and is dealing with Arafat through his deputy who admits he can do nothing without Arafats approval.

My confidence in Bush is eroding.

Failing to protect our southern border and kowtowing to Vincente Fox,

Giving $15 billion to worthless AIDS programs in Africa

Doing nothing as our manufacturing and engineering base are shipped overseas to our enemy China,

Spending so long pandering to the UN and France that Saddam had a chance to escape,

Relying on Pakistan of all places,

Failing to support the Iranian students protestors,

Failing to roll back oppressive Government regulation and actually increasing the size of government,

Pittance of a tax decrease, including $400 per child "refunds" aka socialist wealth redistribution handout to people WHO PAY NO TAXES,

Not firing Colin Powell,

Making Sharon promise not to kill Arafat,

Not holding the Saudi's feet to the fire,

I could go on and on. He could be doing quite a bit better... Unless you are a 'bot who belives in His Divine Inerrancy.

Another, Bush has been pressuring Israel to release terrorist prisoners. I guess this is because he knows "what's happening" ?

Another, Bush promised the Palestinians a state after years of suicide bombings.

I guess he understands the Middle East so well that "Terrorism Pays" is his policy.

As a result, his policy has encouraged Islamic suicides around the world.

Clever.

"You are with us, or you are with the terrorists!"

As they say in Texas - Bush is BIG HAT, NO CATTLE.

With us or with the terrorists - unless you are the Saudi Gang of 1000 Cousins or their buddies.

With us or with the terrorists - Unless you already have nukes to blackmail your neighbors with, like Pakistan.

With us or with the terrorists - yeah, right. Prove it, Bush.

BIG HAT, NO CATTLE.

I'd appreciate a substantive response other than "Whatever," this time, since I've demolished your point with lots of examples which counter it. "Whatever" isn't quite an intellectual response, it's the response of someone with cognitive dissonance who won't leave his position no matter how the facts line up.

I didn't say that, but it's the immature kind of response I have come to expect from you in this thread.

I guess it's too much for you to handle that I expect him to live up to his responsibility and promises.

If you are willing to put up with cheap talk, that's all you'll ever get from these political critters.

Kill Jewish People?

Die.

Only thing wrong with that video that I could see were far two many of those murderous bastards still standing and available to cart away the smoking steaming stinking carcases.

Drive out or kill them all and rid God's Mountains -- and every last square millimetre of Greater Israel -- of their bloody blasphemy!

<< It behooves conservatives to be accurate. >>

It also behoves US to be intelligent and intuitive and to use our deductive resources.

Your county's DA ever win a conviction by way of the use of other than "direct evidence?"

Circumstantial, perhaps?

Thank you for the info as to your also somewhat limited bibliography. It explains a lot.

Read on.

Let's see, I ask you for a specific reference--ANY specific reference, that Hitler was in any way directly affected or influenced by Islam, and you respond with a slam at my "limited bibliography," which, I can tell, means you did not even read that much. Now, care to try again, and give me one piece of evidence, rather than a personal attack?

So, you really don't have any evidence, but were merely spouting. Try having evidence for your point of view next time. It really helps. Now, your posts are "terminated."

What Bush and Powell should have said months ago to the Palestinian Authority:

"Mr. Abbas this is your last chance for peace. Israel has shown restraint but it is not unlimited. The terror organizations must be dismantled and stoped or there will never be peace. This is your last chance to put an end to the violence and have a PA state. If you fail to take immediate action against the terror organizations there will come a time when Israel will have no choice but to put an end to it themselves and with the help of the United States and our war against terror. This will mean an end (annihilation) to the terror groups in Gaza and the West Bank, it will mean that many more Palestinians caught in the way will die, and it will mean no PA state for the forseable future, or ever. The choice is yours to make now. Failure to take action is not an option. If there is one more major terror bombing without any vissible prior efforts or any prior action by your security forces at least seen attmepting to arrest these groups, than you will have made your choice and will have to deal with the fact that Israel will be tunring your cities with terror cells in them into the parking lot for peace.

Can you hear me now Mr. Abbas? I am telling you to impliment the road map to peace along with Israel now or else it will become the parking lot to peace by paving over your ashes along with Hamas, Fatah, Islamic Jihad, and all the killers you failed to eliminate yourself. It is your choice and it is that simple. You know who these groups are, where they are, how they operate, when they operate and under who's orders they follow. Take the action yourself now or else you might find yourself taking a dirt nap besides Hamas, Fatah, Islamic Jihad, Iran, Syira courtesy of the IDF, USAF, USMC, USAA, USN.........."
