Actually, the first rupture was in a pipeline approaching 50-yrs old. If there is one leak there probably are more. Because of Janet's envirobuddies and their politican friends, siting of a new line is next to impossible given the envirostudies and permits needed. The NIMBY folks come out of the woodwork with objections. I'm familar with two cases personally in NM where they are opposing both a new line and an older one that will be substantially upgraded before use. In the meantime, the old lines are subject to increasing failures.

In addition, the publicity this has received will certainly put would-be terrorists on notice that it isn't just the electrical grids that are subjet to disruption. Finally, I know how easy it is for a contractor or one of his employees to hit a buried line, even if it has been marked as required by law. As for Kinder-Morgan folks, the ones I work with take their job very seriously and no one is going to do something intentionally to cause a problem that would result in increased pump prices. Unfortunately, because the enviros and their lawyer and politican friends have shut down expansion of our energy production and transmission systems, we will see more of this, not less, in the future.

(BTW, one of my refinery friends said they are trucking fuel from EL PASO TO PHOENIX. UNBELIEVABLE!!)

"But where the heck would you park it?"

Plenty of "electric car" parking spots open!

Or plop a kid in it and its one of those SUV strollers that jam the aisles now !

BUMP for energy distribution problems. PING to others who would be interested in reinforcement on what they already know: How fragile our entire energy supply and distribution system really is.

I've been trying to be nice, I have friends up there. But with two lines hit I just have to let my Tucson rivalry of Phoenix shine for just a moment:
BWA-HA

OK, I feel better. Good luck Phoenix, looks like you'll need it.

My "kid" is 17 years old. I don't think I want to haul him around the store with me. I might have to get the bigger wagon with the bigger wheels for the amount of food that child eats. LOL!

I haven't seen an electric car parking space in many moons.

BTW, what if you had an electric car during the most recent blackouts in the Northeast? What would you do?

I know this is very, very serious for some folks. I am sorry about their plight, but the truth is, I could do without a car if I had to do that.

Mid Michigan prices jump again just this morning from $1.64 to $1.79. Three weeks ago, we were at $1.44

"This President can rally the country to go to war because its in our national interest but to rally the country to make the oil companies to do the right thing is somehow impossible? "

...but wait a minute... didn't we just fight a war for oil ?

It's funny to watch these folks toss everything bad that happens at Bush in the hopes that maybe something will stick.

They even say that he personally ordered Davis's recall !

"The governor -- who is getting some heat for the state's slow reaction to the gas crisis -- announced she is taking some further steps on the pipeline and shortage front. "

put partisan bs behind us and make these corporate animals do whats right for America...

Uh, hate to tell you this Auntie En but the corporations have been TRYING to do something for years. They can't get permits because the ecoweenies have them stopped cold. It's in their interestes to build refineries, and to put in new pipelines. Do you think it's economical for them to be running ancient infrastructure? It's far more expensive to repair these things then it would be to build new, more eco-friendly plants and pipelines. They just can't get the permits.
