Officials Raid Barbecue-Strip Club

FORT BRANCH, Ind. -- County officials have decided the ambiance of a barbecue joint using nearly nude waitresses to serve ribs is too spicy.

Gibson County Prosecutor Robert Krieg authorized a raid on the Old Hickory BBQ in Fort Branch, about 20 miles north of Evansville, after state police determined the club violated the state's indecency law.

Waitresses at the restaurant were dancing in the dining room, wearing only thong underwear and a small latex covering.

Owner Darrel Russelburg was arrested Friday, charged with "aiding, inducing, or causing public indecency." He was taken to Gibson County Jail with three waitresses and later released on a $650 bond.

State law makes it illegal for anyone to appear in a public place in a state of "nudity with the intent to arouse sexual desire." Still, the 46-year-old businessman plans to fight the charges.

"I'm going to have a barbecue benefit dinner to raise money for my legal defense fund," he said, adding he plans to invite Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt.

Flynt is running for governor in California, but Russelburg said he hopes to contact him before a scheduled hearing Aug. 27.

Hundreds of residents in the town of 2,300 about 20 miles north of Evansville signed petitions protesting the strip club's opening, but the town council told them they could not close it.

What about all the strip clubs in NW Indiana? These don't violate the statute? Not that I'd have any personal, first-hand knowledge or anything, but there are quite a few "gentleman's clubs" in and around Lake Station, Portage, Gary, etc., and they're very well advertised.

In the South, it would only be obscene if they ruin the barbecue :)

Speaking of NW Indiana, did you know that a Hungarian is a well endowed gentlemen from a NW Indiana city?

I talked with one of the champion ribbers at the local RibFest last month who told me of his intentions to open up just such a place.

The prices are pretty cheap, considering that there is entertainment.

In this case we know there's very little risk they'll ruin their waitress uniforms with nasty BBQ stains....

You can keep prices down when "table dances" are $25. Again, not that I'd have any first-hand knowledge of such things.

1/2 Titan burger is named after the local high school team.

The Gibson Southern Titans.

I wouldn't know anything at all about the price of a lap dance. I swear.
