Kosovo gunmen attack swimming teenagers 13/08/2003 - 15:21:35 Gunmen sprayed bullets on teenagers swimming in a Kosovo river today, killing at least one and injuring five others. The gunfire was directed against children swimming, and all those hit were youths, said Derek Chappell, a UN police spokesman in Kosovo. Chappell said. A Serb teenager died and four Serb teenagers and one ethnic Albanian girl were injured, some of them seriously, he added. He did not confirm a report by Belgrade television that said two children had died, one on the scene and one en route to a hospital. UN spokesman Andrea Angeli said the attackers had been hiding in the bush near the river. They were prepared and waiting for the youngsters, he said, adding the attackers used AK-47 automatic rifles. Belgrades independent B92 radio station identified one fatal victim as 18-year-old Milos Jovovic. The kids were swimming and playing on the beach when an attacker sneaked to about 50 yards from them and opened fire, Ratko Manojlovic, a local Serb, told the radio. Two of those injured were in serious condition and were set to be flown to a German military hospital for treatment, Angeli said. The teenagers were swimming in the Bistrica River, near the ethnic Albanian village of Zahac which neighbours the Serb enclave of Gorazdevac. The area is 50 miles from the provincial capital Pristina. Natos top commander in Kosovo, General Lieutenant Fabio Mini, condemned the attack and called it a bad signal for the possibility for Kosovo to achieve tolerance. This is not Kosovo that we want, he said. Police had no suspects and had sealed off the area to investigate. Kosovo has been administered by the United Nations and Nato-led peacekeepers since June 1999, after the alliances 78 day bombing campaign halted Serb forces crackdown on separatist ethnic Albanians. Since the war, Kosovos Serb minority has been targeted by ethnic Albanian extremists in revenge attacks for atrocities committed during the conflict.
And what exactly NATO expected while providing training, logistics, diplomatic and media support to KLA terrorists BEFORE the war, firepower DURING the war and funding, training and atmosphere of impunity to KLA goons after the war?
300,000 ethnically cleansed, more than 3000 civilians killed, 10,000 dwellings looted and burned is the result of NATO support to KLA terrorists.
While U.S. forces fights terrorism around the world, in Kosovo they are busy providing support to Al-Qaeda allies (KLA a.k.a. UCK, ANA, KPC).
I wonder if the suspects might be Islamic males between the ages of 16 and 55.
A friendly guideline to remind readers to criminalize victim to justify terrorist acts.
Excellent question!.
The Kosovo Albanians call themselves Shqip, not Albanians in their native language. They also call themselves Kosovars (i.e. Kosovoans) as if Serbs, Roma and other ethnic groups living in Kosovo are not Kosovoans.
Please note how the term "Kosovar" creeped into English usage.
Shqip of Kosovo started using name "Albanians" in 1968 to obfuscate issue of hundreds of thousands of Albanians (Shqips, citizens of neighboring Albania) crossed porous border and settled illegaly in Kosovo.
When one speak of "Albanians" it is impossible to say wether he relates to sqatters, citizens of Albania or Shqip citizens of Serbia who live legally in Kosovo.
This is the same ploy as Arabs of Palestine calling themselves "Palestinians".
"Ethnic Albanian" commonly refers to persons of Albanian ethnicity living in Macedonia, Kosovo/Serbia, and Montenegro. It is used to differentiate them from Albanians who live in Albania proper who normally are simply called "Albanian".
Kosova? Huh. Kosova is tribe in Central Africa and not related to the Balkans. It must be problem with your spelling checker.
What you probably had in mind is known as Kosovo since Medieval times. Kosovo (abreviation from Kosovo and Metohia) is historical province of Serbia.
Any American encyclopaedia printed before 1990 can confrirm this.
KOSOVA is Albanian pipe dream, just like Chicanos Aztlan.
You inhale too much?
Thanks for history lesson, but perhaps you first have to enroll into English spelling class.
Something else. Albanian birth rate is 2.9% and that is the reason of population explosion, not the drawing of borders.
