The final shape and size of the gubernatorial recall ballot is scheduled to be announced Wednesday as President Bush prepares for a two-day fund-raising swing through California that could put him in the eye of the state's unpredictable political firestorm.

Since there's a good chance, IMHO, that the recall won't come off, I think the White House should be very careful about getting too heavily involved.

My guess is that, unless Davis is clearly going to win, he'll resign and Bustamante will be sworn in. While I recognize that Davis won't do this on his own, he'll have no choice if he wants to stay on the Democratic gravy train. When Torricelli resigned in NJ (the right thing from the Democratic point of view) the Democrats evidently started looking for ways to repay him and recently gave him a million dollar appointment as a trustee.
