[history]
Although past races have earned Gov. Gray Davis his reputation as an aggressive campaigner, advisers say he'll fight the recall election with a strategy based on trying to fly above the circus swirling below.
If he is to survive the first recall election in California history, his advisers say, he must also show voters the Republican-led recall on Oct. 7 will not solve California's problems.

Memo to AP reporter: From the time you went to press, Gumby's team had already upped the cost of the recall election by another $4 million!
$70 million and rising, almost as fast as Gray's deficit.

Yeah run as the one who doesn't quite get it. Real smart strategy but its not like he can run against the political class he's a part of.

LOL! Like Savage said, Gray can resign and "poof!" the entire election vanishes. I'm really glad Savage isn't running. He would have lost everything. FReegards....

"Davis' first order of business, his consultants say, is to show voters there is no crisis in the Capitol and that he's in control of a functioning government."
LOL! Apparently Governor Davis is taking lessons from Baghdad Bob.

You know you can ignore the fact California is living on a credit card and in Davis' world, that a sign of a "functioning government." Only in California!

"...from Baghdad Bob."LOL! You know what's really funny here? The governor who managed to lose $38 billion of our money has a finance director by the name of Steve Peace. Back when Wilson was still in office, Peace was the state Senator who did the bidding of Wilson and introduced the phony "energy deregulation" legislation that was anything but. It was that bill that started us on the road to ruin. And who is co-chairing Schwarzenegger's candidacy? Pete Wilson, old political ally of Steve Peace.

How does arguing that the recall is costly help when it's basically a sunk cost at this point? That's an argument against signing the petition.
