Former Vice President Al Gore told a New York University audience on Thursday that he expects to give his presidential endorsement to one of the nine other Democrats currently in the race.
But the man who helped Gore win a second term as Bill Clinton's right hand man said hours later that the ex-veep is plotting to get into the race himself.
"What I think Gore is doing is testing the waters," top political consultant Dick Morris told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.
"He's going to poll, he's going to give another speech, he's going to poll. And then, after a while, if he sees his numbers moving up and he sees that he could do this thing, he might get in."
Morris says that former New York Governor Mario Cuomo's recommendation on Wednesday that Gore run again was a dead giveaway to the ex-veep's true intentions.
"The is no chance - none - that Mario Cuomo did that without a phone call being made to him," said Morris. He noted also that Gore was invited to NYU to address the pro-Clinton group Moveon.org only after he asked for the invitation.
"There is no way that this isn't orchestrated," the former Clinton-Gore insider insisted.

I think that there's a very good chance Gore will run. He has the name recognition among the lunatic fringe of the left who are still convinced that he was the true winner in 2000 (some sort of psychological phenomenon known as mass psychosis).
In 2000, he tried to campaign as a moderate. Earlier this year, though, he came out with several leftist ideas (his true colors IMHO), especially on healthcare. I'm sure the mainstream media will give him a pass as he tries to reclaim "the vital center," but hopefully enough people will remember how he did a hard left turn once he decided he was out of the race.
Regardless of how hard the media pushes this dolt, I think he's a sure washed-up loser...again. Bring him on.

Why should Gore or Nader allow themselves to be discarded, marginalized, and disrespected by people for whom they've done so much?

Gore wasn't even "invited to NYU." NYU rented out the room to moveon.org, nothing more. (Specifically, via a request from the NYU College Democrats club.)

Yes, moveon is the group that sponsored the online primary. I voted in it four times just for fun. We want Sharpton!

I think that Morris is out to lunch on this one.

Incidentally, since I had to register an e-mail address to freep the moveon poll, they now occasionally send me "updates" and fundraising requests. Today, I got an e-mail touting Gore's NYU speech. I replied to it, telling them that I truly hoped Gore would run because that would mean a sure victory for Bush.

I think you may be right . . . But if Gore does run, after saying conclusively not long ago that he wouldn't, it just reinforces the "Gore as Pathological Liar" image, as well as "Gore the Opportunist." And in this post 9-11 world, Gore just seems like such old news, very passe, a retread--again this reinforces the idea (rightly so) that the dems have no new ideas, they are stuck with spouting the same old nonsense, and running boring old Gore confirms that. As for those who persist in believing he "won" before (I don't know about that with all the early calls, voter fraud and vote buying, etc), all I have to say is that was THEN, this is NOW>
On top of that, Gore looks like he's just been embalmed.

"He's going to poll, he's going to give another speech, he's going to poll."Oh, joy - more Altoast speeches. C-Span just replayed yesterday's pep rally. Altoast said he won't run but will endorse some RAT who is running. Could just be more lies...

If Gore runs, Hillary won't. If Gore makes serious noises and mysteriously drops out, Hillary will run.

Gore debating Lieberman in a debate.
How ugly and hypocritical could that possibly get?
To: kattracks
As I said before the 2000 election Algore is a weenie and will NEVER be President of the United States.
I hope he is nominated.

Isn't moveon.org that organization that had the on-line "primary" that Dean was supposed to get a majority in and didn't? Gore's an environmentalist....I thought the environmentalists don't like Dean. Moveon.org's main reason to exist today is "Get Bush." They don't care how or with what candidate. The group was originally created to fight Clinton's impeachment, so their core membership is of certified Clinton kneepadders and Gorebots, while most of their post-2000 membership signups are virulent Bush Haters.
Which, of course, means the group will tend to throw support to both Dean and Gore at various times. But they'd go all-Sharpton in a second if they became convinced that was the best way to "take Bush down."

I always said that Gore dropped out only to allow Lieberman to get into the race without breaking his pledge not to run if Gore ran.
Now that Lieberman is tanking, Gore can get back in.

During his speech yesterday, he sounded exactly like Saturday night Live portrayed him in 2000. One good thing about them thinking he really won in 2000 is that he will not change anything. If anything he will move to the left to cut off Dean.
