Costner brands Dubya a cowboy
Kevin Costner loves a good cowboy flick as much as the next guy. But he doesn't think President Bush should treat the world like it's the O.K. Corral. The actor, who directed and stars in the new Western "Open Range," has been friendly for some time with the first President Bush. Having played golf with "41" up in Kennebunkport, he tells us: "I don't want to turn my back on that family. They've been gracious to me."
But he's troubled by what he considers Dubya's squinty-eyed Wyatt Earp posturing. "We're supposed to evolve from frontier justice," he said at a Tuesday screening of his movie. "You have to be a citizen of the world. ... These are difficult waters to negotiate, and you have to be a pretty evolved person to be able to do it.
"I think that [the Old West mythology] is a good thing to have in your spine. But it shouldn't operate your brain. It's nice to know that you're willing to fight. But it's good to know how smart you are about not fighting." [snip]

Just the mutterings of yet another washed-up Hollywood has-been limosine-liberal. Pay him no mind.
Nothing to see here folks. Move along...

I'll take him seriously when he makes a western where the conflicting parties sit at a table and talk through their differences.

WTF is he talking about?? I think it has something to do with this turkey flick, plus him having developed webbed fingers.

It's hard to be profound at any particular moment, isn't it, Kevin? It must be terrible to be unable to get a good philosophical stream while standing in front of the media urinal... the reporters are there to record your insights for the benefit of the universe, yet all you can do is string together post-modern soundbytes.

LOLOLOL! Costner - the oatmeal brained self described cowboy with all the acting ability of a ham sandwhich who likes to ride horses and wear leather pants.

Two words Kevin, "Shut the F Up". OK that's 3 words and a letter but we Cowboys can't do math.

But he's troubled by what he considers Dubya's squinty-eyed Wyatt Earp posturing. There's no finer cinema example of how to deal with outlaws than Wyatt Earp ... in "Tombstone." (whether it's historically accurate or not is another matter)

Probably has something to do with wanting attention for a new movie that already looks like a dog ...

Remind me again why I should care what this jerk has to say.

And what is wrong with being a cowboy? They said that about Ronald Reagan! Look what he did for us......

Waterworld, Field of Dreams, Dances with Wolves, The Postman.
Yeah, I can see that Kevin Costner has some sort of bias against the Heroic Delivery of Justice image.
George W. Bush also lands jet planes on carrier decks.

I for one will not watch the movie now, although I had been looking forward to it. I suspect his target audience are the very people who will find his commments offensive.
To: ejdrapes
Time to add Costner to the growing "no watch" list of Sarandon, Baldwin, Fonda, Clooney, et al.

"Evolved person"....Costner is not very long evolved from hanging by his tail in a tree!!!!! What an idiot.
To: roderick
Costner's been on my "no watch" list for a long time, and it ain't because of his politics - his movies stink!
To: ExpatCanuck
his target audience are the very people who will find his commments offensive. The way his career has gone in recent years suggests that he's not evolved enough to make this connection!

I think I figured it out! Costner doesn't look half as good in his leather pants as Our President did in his flight suit. Mr. C is jealous.

I think I just evolved enough to boycott his restaurant (Jake's) and casino (Midnight Star) in Deadwood, SD.
