IMHO, Arnold may jump in at the last possible minute or back Riordan's jump in. The uncertainty it gives democrats may make a nervous Feinstein or Boxer jump in thus certainly killing Davis' chances.

Both are moderates who back abortion rights, gay rights and some gun controls. mod·er·ate (mo?d??r-?t) adj. 1. Being within reasonable limits; not excessive or extreme: a moderate price. 2. Not violent or subject to extremes; mild or calm; temperate: a moderate climate. 3. a. Of medium or average quantity or extent. b. Of limited or average quality; mediocre. 4. Opposed to radical or extreme views or measures, especially in politics or religion.
They must be using definition 3.

I had just read that polls were coming in showing people were really turned off by Arnold mixing entertainment with the recall and making such a production number of whether he would run. The article said because of this he would announce his decision before Leno at a press conference and then discuss reasons on Leno. I'll try and find the link.

Geeeeeeze, shut up already, Arnold. This is so absurd. I stopped caring about whether or not you'd run a couple of weeks ago.

Just the fact that Arnold is announcing his decision on Leno's show should tell us something.
Such dignity!
I have this weird picture of George Washington or Abraham Lincoln announcing their candidacies at traveling minstrel shows of the day.
Well, this is California, I suppose. Dignity is as dignity does. There's no business like show business.

Oh come on. Which has more viewership, Leno or the CBS evening news? It's the PERFECT place to announce.

Times are quite different. In the stump speeches of Polk's and Buchanan's day, it was quite common to have the liquor flowing. Davy Crockett campaigned heavily in saloons.
You overestimate the "virginity" of the Founders, who were not at all above using an entertainment event as a political platform. I don't think Washington would have the slightest problem with it. He'd probably say, "Why didn't I think of that?"
Remember also that this was a time when pols gave inaugurals that lasted well over and HOUR AND A HALF. This isn't then. Things are different, not necessarily worse. I for one, am thankful that speeches don't go that long.

If he wants to be governor, he might best run as a Democrat. He is absolutely not a conservative. As a DemonRat his personal past makes no difference, he can use the Kennedy clan political ties to his advantage, the other DemonRats have stayed out of the game so far, and he would pick up the "independent" vote as well. He could run by saying he is saving the state from the evil far right conservatives that are trying to disrupt the process blah blah blah.
My guess, though, is that he won't run because he doesn't really want to get into politics.

Found it. It was in the Washington Times Inside Politics Section.
http://www.washtimes.com/national/20030804-112056-2488r.htm Ah-nold reconsiders
Arnold Schwarzenegger has backed off making a big announcement on late-night TV, possibly a reaction to criticism that he was mixing politics and showbiz a little too closely.
"Arnold will make a statement concerning his decision whether to run in the California recall election on Wednesday, August 6th. Schwarzenegger's announcement will be followed with an appearance on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,' where he will elaborate on his decision," his office said in a statement released yesterday.
Should he run, the actor would join as many as 200 other candidates in the California race to replace Democratic Gov. Gray Davis, should he be recalled.
To: Republican Red
But that doesn't say anything about polling. I think he just realized that since the show is taped and not live, it's dumb to announce anything there.

GOP uncertainty? What GOP uncertainty?? No Conservative I know wanted that RINO anyway.
Here's the only guy who can do the job!
