SECURITY TOPS HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) continue to graduate police officers from academies throughout the Mosul area while 1st Armored Division soldiers are training the Iraqi Police Services in modern policing techniques.

The 101st AAD’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team, nicknamed the “Rakassans,” graduated 60 police officers July 26 from their academy in Sinjar. The new police officers will serve as future cadre for the academy. New classes are scheduled to start this week.

Soldiers from the 101st AAD have also started training a new class of officers for the Iraqi Facility Protection Security Force. The FPSF provides security at power plants, water treatment plants and at other infrastructure locations. The long-term goal of the FPSF is to take over the duties of American soldiers and Iraqi police who currently guard key sites.

Soldiers from the 101st AAD have also started a three-day Correctional Officer Course. The course is being held at the Temporary Juvenile Prison near Mosul. Although course content between the various academies varies, classes basically include instruction in security duties and responsibilities, medical first aid, apprehension techniques, professionalism and ethics, weapons safety and rifle marksmanship.

Military Police from the 1st AD began training the second class of Iraqi police officers July 26 as part of the Training Integration Program in Baghdad. The program is designed to introduce modern policing techniques to the IPS. The 1st AD soldiers are teaching IPS officers about crime scene investigation, application of citizens’ rights, appropriate use of force and level of response and police response to incidents and complaints.

The current class includes 200 IPS officers. Once the program is fully operational more than 4,000 Iraqi police will have completed the training.

WEAPONS SIEZED IN MULTIPLE RAIDS

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Possible attacks were prevented through the removal of enemy weapons during multiple raids throughout Iraq on July 28 by Coalition forces in support of the effort to create a secure environment.

Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) conducted a raid on a local café in search of a person who allegedly attacked various police stations in the Mosul area. The soldiers detained 10 individuals and confiscated two AK-47s and 400,000 Iraqi Dinars.

A large weapons cache was located at a café in the Layal area by the 4th Infantry Division. The soldiers confiscated a number of weapons including two 120 mm mortars, two 82 mm mortars, two 60 mm mortars and three rocket-propelled grenade launchers. More than 2000 RPG rounds and an unknown number of 82 mm and 60 mm mortar rounds remain in the café, which is being guarded by Coalition forces.

Coalition forces detained three Iraqi males and confiscated one van, three AK-47s, and ammunition when the 4th ID closed an illegal checkpoint in the vicinity of one of its base camps. Another 4th ID patrol confiscated 1,000 grenades that were hidden in a haystack in the vicinity of Salman Pak.

Another 4th ID patrol located a cache of weapons in Samarra in an area normally filled with vendors. All of the vendors fled the area as the patrol approached. ATTACKS AVOIDED, WEAPONS CONFISCATED IN NORTHERN IRAQ

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Possible attacks were foiled and prevented as Coalition forces disrupted a rocket-propelled grenade attack on a fuel convoy and located a large weapons cache in northern Iraq.

A rocket-propelled grenade ambush attack in northwest Iraq was foiled by soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at approximately 5 p.m. on July 31 by engaging and wounding an individual before he could fire the RPG accurately. The individual was captured and received medical care for leg wounds at a Coalition medical facility.

A large amount of ammunition and weapons were found and confiscated at a refugee camp located approximately 80 km northwest of Kirkuk by the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 101st AAD on July 29. The 101st AAD declared an amnesty period, when weapons could be turned in without fear of punishment, on July 30.

The total confiscated weapons cache included 745 RPGs, more than 3,730 rounds of ammunition, 41 fragmentary grenades, 11 air defense artillery missiles and a number of various other weapons.

The confiscated ammunition is systematically destroyed by EOD as caches are brought in. The small arms weapons are checked and usable weapons are reissued to Iraqi Policemen, the New Iraqi Army and members of the Coalition Provisional Authority security force.

In the last 24 hours, coalition forces conducted 27 raids, 692 day patrols and 618 night patrols and conducted 112 day patrols and 169 night patrols jointly with Iraqi police.

Iraq is about the size of California.

Iraq has a population of over 24 million. Baghdad, a population of over 5 million.

We have over 150,000 U.S. troops stationed in and around Iraq.

Saddam - and other enemies of America - poured weapons into Iraq before the war - filling schools and warehouses and hospitals across the country - within easy reach of even the children. The vast majority of Iraqi people chose not to fight.

A small percentage of Saddam loyalists and terrorist wannabes remain - tens of thousands of some of the nastiest low-lifes in history. They have no future in Iraq. OUR press and policiticians give these bad guys false hope daily - every time they hype casualties and ignore the successes of our troops.

CLUE for the press and the DEMS - the troops KNOW why they are in Iraq. They aren't risking their lives because of 16 words or 28 pages or because Clinton bombed the Sudan aspirin factory after Monica's grand jury testimony and incited the Taliban jihad against America. When OUR press and politicians exaggerate the dwindling enemy's strength and call four months of outstanding work in Iraq a 'failure of the peace', THEY - and not the troops, the military leaders or the President - threaten the peace.

During the week of July 27 - August 2:  7 soldiers died (5 due to hostile action), 14 soldiers were wounded serving their country in Iraq.

Over 149,979 U.S. troops responded, as always, with focus, determination, and honor - on behalf of their comrades and country.

Quagmire, guerilla warfare, mass US casualties?  No.

Not now, not yesterday....in spite of the deliberate efforts of the press, the UN, international socialist NGOs and the Democratic Party of America to undermine the President, the troops, the country, and the will of the people by misrepresenting the situation on the ground to the watching world daily for four months and 14 days - and counting.

They should institute a policy of "destroy in place". For safety reasons if nothing else.

Some caches are big enough to blow a hole the size of a football field in the middle of a neighborhood. Saddam, the seriously rotten man he is, made sure that booby traps were set across the nation. One stray missile - or an enemy RPG fired into a school/hospital packed with ammo - hundreds (or more) could have been killed.

Every week of this war has been miraculously free of mass casualties - because of the skill and courage of our troops and their commanding officers, help from grateful Iraqi people - and...something beyond us, imho. How else to explain the weekly progress of our troops in spite of all the worldly forces with the loudest voices working against them?

Lots of our "friends" on the left and the extreme right are wailing about us being in a pointless war that has turned into a quagmire. Here are some quick comparisons to ONE SINGLE OPERATION of WWII that was not called a quagmire by the U.S. press at the time, although anyone who was there might have disagreed. And although FDR's cheering section said nothing of the kind, it was arguably an unnecessary battle, and thus as "pointless" as many.

Here are some comparisons:

Iraq 2003: 142 days of military operations
Huertgenwald 1944: 114 days of military operations

Iraq 2003: 150,000 troops committed
Huertgenwald 1944: 120,000 troops committed

Iraq 2003: 167 killed (I don't have wounded stats)
Huertgenwald 1944: 24,000 (that is correct- twenty-four THOUSAND) killed, wounded, captured or missing, plus another 9,000 removed for medical reasons

Iraq 2003: area 168,709(some compare it to the state of California)
Huertgenwald 1944: approximately 200 square miles (smaller than the average size of an Iowa county)

So here we are... witnessing AP, Reuers, AFP, Yahoo, Al Jizz, Howard Dean, half the 'rat base, 50% of the 1%ers, and so on, screaming about the mess we are in. What in God's name would these same people have said about operations in front of the Roer River? How can that kind of blatant, agenda-driven phony hysteria be tolerated by anyone of sound mind? I am not going to belittle any American soldier's death - indeed, that is why I am praying like never before - yet I am thankful that we have not seen 289 soldiers coming back in bags for 114 straight days... and all in a tiny little corner of just one of two major theatres of operations.

Just say, "NO" to the detractors, eh.

CENTCOM, the PRIMARY news source on Iraq reported. The press ignored them. That's criminally irresponsible when world opinion is shaped by these reporters, imho.

The case against the left re. the war:

CENTCOM: daily good works and security successes:

*COALITION AND IRAQI POLICE WORK TO MAKE IRAQ SECURE
*+ KEYWORD 'SECURITY'
*COALITION EFFORTS AID IRAQ'S RECOVERY
*+ KEYWORD 'HUMANITARIAN'
*CENTCOM BRIEFINGS

It's good to see some good news for the coalition.

Thanks Ragtime Cowgirl, I was looking for a link like this thread a couple weeks ago, but all I could come away with is what follows.

The One-A-Day Vitamin for the Anti-American Agenda

By: Matthew B. Rogers

A lot of fuss has been made about media bias in our Nations newsrooms. The elites that bring us our managed news are quick to deny the accusations and the more the complaints roll in the more vigorously the accusations are denied.

It is an unfortunate fact that Americans continue to be attacked daily in Iraq and no American should be happy that the brave defenders of our freedoms are facing fatalities at an average of one soldier a day. But there exists another fact that should be of even greater concern.

Where is the score card? We have sent our young men into a war zone and our media is more interested in reporting and uncovering perceived failures of their actions than reporting on our Troops successes.

It is impossible to compare the actions of past military campaigns with the more recent wars of today and not recognize that never have we been so lucky with our fatality rates. Not only are we not experiencing the catastrophic loss of military personal, which was predicted by the media during the build up to the campaign, but we are also succeeding in fighting a humane war that allows the enemy to avoid facing their own catastrophic losses. The public is not aware of this fact, because no one in the media is keeping a score card.

We see reports everyday about the decreasing moral of the soldiers in the field and the public is asked to have sympathy for their situation. America’s journalists want us to believe this is new and our foot soldiers have never been known to complain in past conflicts. Unfortunately the news media is doing nothing to try to correct the problem and are denying our military personal the glory of celebrating their successes, because they do not care to report their accomplishments. If you study all the news reports of the day, you would begin to think our soldiers are ignoramuses who stand out in the open like sitting ducks without any regard for their own safety.

Where is the outrage, that our own news media is constantly celebrating the victories of our enemies in killing American soldiers at an average of one a day? They refuse to allow the American Public the knowledge that would give us reason to celebrate the soldier’s achievements and build up military moral. Have we become so limp and bent over that we allow journalists to blatantly supply comfort to our enemies, from right here on our home soil?

It is no longer a matter of media bias it has become a matter of anti-American Journalists. We are being kicked in the ass by treasonous bastards who have no respect for the great achievements of our own brave Patriots and would rather help build up the moral of our enemies. Can even the stupidest among us, believe our troops are sitting on their thumbs and not making any effort to create a safer Iraq, by capturing the hold outs and killing them when necessary? Does anyone believe that our military is not working to achieve their mission so they can all come home? These are the messages our news media seems to be trying to get across to the American public.

I’m not trying to make a claim that our military forces are infallible, but they are no where near the incompetence level they are made out to be in news. The failure of the journalists to report all the facts and not just negative details, they diligently work twenty four hours a day to uncover, is incompetent and breaks every rule of journalism. Even if it was their job to only report the negative, they are missing the most negative story of the war, which is their own anti-Americanism.

What purpose is not reporting all the facts serving? It doesn’t create a well informed public it doesn’t serve to boost the moral of our troops and it doesn’t help to unite the people during a time of war. The only purposes it does serve is to divide the people, weaken the moral of our troops and give our enemy hope that Americas resolve is faltering and we will soon run home crying. These facts point to only one conclusion and that is that our journalists are a bunch of incompetent treasonous bastards, who exploit the death of our patriotic military personal, to feed their desire to see our Nation fail. The average loss of one soldier a day in Iraq has become the one-a-day vitamin, for the anti-American Agenda.

The time will come to call accounts, on the actions that brought us to finish the war in Iraq. We as a Constitutional Republic should not be able to go to war with a divided Congress. Our Constitution has specific safe guards in place to prevent this. Our greatest strength is our unity. They had a chance to pass a concise plainly worded bill, in a style of our Constitution everyone could understand, declaring war on Iraq, instead they passed some vague language more resembling one of my sorted works, but still giving the President authority to use military force. Leaving more questions than answers but assuring the politicians would have something to pry the people apart with in the future.
