Hustler Publisherto Run in Calif. Recall

LOS ANGELES - Porn king Larry Flynt wants to rule California. The Hustler magazine publisher paid the $3,500 fee required to run in the gubernatorial recall election and says he may spend a large amount of his own money if people take his candidacy seriously.

The registered Democrat, civil libertarian and free speech advocate said he'd solve California's budget woes by expanding slot machine gambling. His holdings include several casinos.

"California is the most progressive state in the union," said Flynt, 61. "I don't think anyone here will have a problem with a smut peddler as governor."

More than 200 people statewide have taken the very first step of filing the required paperwork with county registrars. Other quirky candidates include several men named Gray Davis and Angelyne, the blonde, buxom artist made famous by her depiction on numerous Hollywood billboards.

Flynt is among about 50 aspiring politicians who have paid the nonrefundable fee. To get on the Oct. 7 ballot, declared candidates also need 65 to 100 signatures from voters registered in their party.

Dang "journalists" can't seem to get it right. The title of the article - Flynt isn't "running" for anything. ;-)

I'm sure many liberal Democrats are proud and pleased to have him carrying the party torch. This is just too funny and will provide immense entertainment.

I wonder how the election baHot will be laid out? With this many candidates alphabetical may be the only choice. Flynt would be near the top of the list.

Anybody with a last name beginning with A thinking about running? Many voters will never read the whole list of 200. The top 10 probably have the best shot.

Flynt said, ""I don't think anyone here will have a problem with a smut peddler as governor."

You replied, "Well, at least Flynt is more honest than Gray Davis."

This was my reaction, too. Flynt has no illusions about who he is and what he does and he is honest about it. As far as I can tell, this is his only decent quality.

So it puts him ahead of almost all dem politicians and some republicans.

Hustler Publisher to Run in Calif. Recall

At last! A breath of fresh air blows across California!

I think it would be good for California if Larry Flynt would announce his candidacy.

I'm sure he'll have the most eye-catching campaign posters.

Seriously, Flynt probably represents California about as well as anyone. And bankrupting the little SOB with a political campaign isn't such a bad idea either.

At least now we know why Clinton intends to campaign in California. It's payback time and Billy Jeff needs to be there to support his impeachment friend (and make time with the campaign staff...)

I can just see Clinton now at a fundraiser with Flynt and a bunch of girls from Hustler, trying to hit on them:

"Hey, gals, wanna know what it feels like to be with Kobe Bryant? You can say it's not really 'sex'..."

This is just a publicity stunt by Flynt to try to sell more hardcore porn magazines. Hustler is losing money big time.

Anybody with a last name beginning with A thinking about running?

I see signs in front of every polling place in Texas that say "Vote Aqui Here" ("aqui" being the Spanish word for "here"). I've thought about getting my surname legally changed to "Aqui" and then running for office. Then I wouldn't need to post campaign signs around every polling place - the government would be doing it for me!

The registered Democrat, civil libertarian

What's the difference between a Democrat and libertarian? Not much, just ask Larry.

It's pretty funny. The Dems think that Larry Flynt as Gov of CA would upset Republicans. Heck, a Dem Smut King of CA would give Republicans nationwide a reason to rejoice....
