Community Joins To Fight Teen's Illness

Aston teenager Lisa Bratten, who was diagnosed with colon cancer last September, has been mounting a courageous battle with the disease that took her and her family by complete surprise.

In September 2002, Lisa began to experience severe back pain. After several weeks of discomfort and ineffective medical treatment, her mother, Connie, took her to the duPont Hospital for Children, where the shocking diagnosis was made.

"The doctors said Lisa had a rare form of colon cancer called Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) and she would need surgery and chemotherapy," said Mrs. Bratten. "I was in a state of shock."

Some close friends of ours are afflicted with this disease. All the children have been diagnosed and most have already undergone surgery. My prayers for Lisa.
