For all-news cable TV, Kobe is O.J.FOR cable news, a judge's ruling last week allowing TV cameras into an August 6 hearing for NBA star Kobe Bryant is like Christmas in July, writes Don Kaplan in The New York Post.

Add to it the fact that this culture worships celebrities. If, in fact, he did attack the girl, I'm sure there are some people in the world who would rather see him walk than see justice served.

I could not agree more. Kobe will never be convicted. Every talking head on TV is questioning the motives, veracity, sanity, etc. of the victim. It's disgusting. How come no one is speculating on how many times Kobe has been unfaithful? The encounter happened so quickly after his arrival at the hotel... it's obviously a routine. He just has to but his wife a bigger diamond and she looks the other way.

You're sick and tired of WHAT?

Why don't you wait until a trial and verdict to begin the gnashing and wailing?

I totally disagree with you. This is a post-9/11 world where justice is a more keenly desired component of a civilized society, IMO.

There's also the possibility that Bryant did not commit the crime alleged and an acquittal is what is in order.

I wasn't talking about its legal relevancy. I was saying that our society doesn't care about his behavior. People are just concerned that he is a star. I hope, just for his pure embarassment, that former conquests come forward to say it wasn't a one-time "mistake of adultery."

You got that right.

I hope that the trial is not televised. IMO, that was the beginning of the end of sanity in the O.J. trial. That, and an inept prosecution, a "non-judgmental" judge, and a year-long trial, among other problems.

I was saying that our society doesn't care about his behavior.

Why should anyone other than his wife "care" if he his faithful to her?

Now, if he were to lie under penalty of perjury about his faithfulness, then I'd "care".

I hope, just for his pure embarassment, that former conquests come forward to say it wasn't a one-time "mistake of adultery."

He's not charged with adultery, he's charged with sexual assault.

If, as you say, "it's obiously a routine", and there has been other instances of sexuall assualt and not simply consensual, yet illicit affairs, it will come out, one way or another.
