NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- A new Merle Haggard song that's critical of the media's coverage of the war in Iraq is garnering so much attention that it's being rushed to thousands of radio stations around the country, a spokesman for the country singer said Thursday.

A new Merle Haggard song that's critical of the media's coverage of the war in Iraq....Wow, nice misleading title on the part of CNN.

This might sound stary-eyed, but I really love his music - so this is disappointing.

he referred to this war as "another Bush war" ....
and willie nelson has been very critical as well, in his usually snide little way...
well, buy their records if you want....but not me...
I just as soon buy 70' classic rock then support these guys...

The song is critical of the media, not the war. It's about the media moving along to things like Kobe Bryant and Scott Peterson.

I saw him speaking about this on teevee...I'm sorry that I can't remember the program, but it was a morning FNC show.
He was undoubtably against the war. However, I must qualify that by saying that he also had no clue as to the past, or present, realities concerning the war.
IOW, he was Dixie Chicks lite...
And, I don't say that lightly.;o)

He is critical of the war. I've lost all respect for him. He's another Bush bashing lib these days. Very sad way to end up.

He was talking to John Gibson about it all this past week. He really didn't have any facts at all. John just went along with him, seemed to feel it wasn't worth arguing or correcting his MIS-information. And he had plenty of that. I love his music, too, and he writes good songs...But he's not the brightest spokesperson for ANY cause!

Absolutely correct. I was astounded at the title, and then I read the article. The title is a lie.

He is critical of the war.I don't think there's anything wrong per se with being critical of the war- it's more the manner in which some high profile people have been critical. It's when celebrities are using their little slice of lime light as a bully pulpit that grates on me. Lance Armstrong was/is against the war and even told the President so, but he doesn't cycle from one stage to the next using the Tour de France podium as a soap box.

Merle Haggard on FNC said Tony Blair is speaking out of both sides of his mouth, and he said if our "prez" (his word) wanted to go to Afghanistan (or Iraq?), to run an oil pipeline, he should have just said so.

Willie has obviously been sharing his stash with Merle. I've been to one of Willie's stoned-out concerts and it sucked big time.

Merle Haggard is not eighty-five years old and he never worked in Lyndon Johnson's administration so that would be a big no.
On the other hand, the Merle Haggard of "Okie from Muskogee" and "Walkin' on the Fightin' Side of Me" is no longer with us. His last brain cell must have departed if he has degenerated so much as to oppose the war and support the Dixie Tricks.

Merle has killed more brain cells through alcohol than Willie through weed. He's been drunk for 25 years...the last 10 big time.
He's trying to sell records and is actually picking up his touring pace.
IMO he's looking for publicility or sucking up to the people who may give him a new lease on his music life. Doing so, he's alienating his original fan base...me.

Interesting. I'm confused about the whole neo-con issue. Some are saying one Reaganites are neo-cons.
