Meeting for the first time at the White House, the two leaders also held a working lunch and a joint press conference in the Rose Garden. (Ariel Sharon is scheduled to meet with Bush in DC on July 29.)

This week, the United States Treasury will begin printing and mailing more than 25 million child tax credit checks, putting over $12 billion back into the hands of American families.

I don't know how trustworthy Abbas is going to prove, but they two certainly seem to be able to get along, and perhaps that holds good portent for the region. I do not get the ghastly feeling looking at Abbas that I get from Arafat's photos.

I'm not sure either, but I do know they have to start somewhere. If this guy can somehow stop the suicide bombers, it's worth a try.

Besides, Sharon is not a stupid man .. his #1 job is to look out for the best insterest of his country and the poeple there. and that is what he will do.

FOFL ... OMG .. could you just imagine how [Dennis Miller] would answer Helen's questions

"C'mon, Helen. You know the Democrats have more excuses and complaints than Teddy has empties in the poolhouse! Surely you can't believe that stuff you just used to preface your nonquestion?"

"Helen, I've got a question for you: Just how many cats do you own now?"

"Helen, that question makes me think you must be one yacht short of being a Kennedy and driving too close to the bridge...." </end Dennis Miller mode>

But Abbas is a bloodthristy terrorist anyway. His goal has always been Jew-free Palestine.

I understand your point .. but at the same time, these killings have to stop .. they can't continue like they have been with Arafat.

If there is any way that peace can come out all of this, it's worth a try. It won't be easy and it's the future they all need to work at. Abbas is an old man and won't been around forever, and somehow the people over there need to learn to live as neighbors.

It's amazing how bold one can be when using the Dennis Miller voice, isn't it? :)

(Thanks, btw.)

I think Dennis Miller-style writing exhausted my original thinking for the night, but while catching up on my reading elsewhere, I did find this passage worth repeating from Wednesday's "Best of the Web."

The passage below follows some interesting commentary on Gephardt's poorly timed mention of the "looming quagmire." The passage itself is about all of the doomsayer's use of "quagmire" when referring to the situation in Iraq (emphasis mine):

Those who fear another Vietnam in Iraq (as opposed to those who hope for one, who are impervious to reason) should bear in mind that the situations are entirely different. Vietnam was a defensive war in which the enemy had territory of its own and the support of a rival superpower. In Iraq, guerrilla remnants are all that is left of a vanquished foe.

Those who fear another Vietnam in Iraq

has there been any war that the Dems haven't compared it to Vietnam?

I just caught the Dennis Miller rant. I now know why I sometimes have a tendency to drop my "g"'s at the end of some words I type here: It's out of respect for our president.

(Paraphrased quote about President George W. Bush's tenacity when hunting terrorists and about how, when he really gets serious in his statements about his intentions, the president tends to drop his "g"'s: "He's not hunting them; he's huntin' 'em." --Dennis Miller)

Late 70's, Derek Prince came to the Church I was attending, and I've never forgotten him. Awesome man of God.

Wow - how fortunate. I used to get the New Wine magazine that featured a lot of his writings, and they always ministered to me. Bought some of his tapes. I hadn't heard anything from him for a long time, and then recently The Elijah List sent out a word through him that ministered deeply into my life. I'm glad to hear he's still out there ministering to the flock of God.

My mother always used to say the eyes are the windows of the soul.

My mother always used to say that, too.

Luke 11:34 Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness. 35 See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. 36 Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the light of a lamp shines on you.

No matter how desirous he may be unless he has the power it will come to nil. I think the President is trying to show that the whole power of this country is behind him. Even Syria is feeling the results of the war.
