Sorry for my very late comment on this, but I've just come across this forum. I had read in one of After the Battle's editions that Spielberg had bought the rights to John Bradley's book "Flags of our Fathers" back in 2001 or 02. This book was written by the the son of one of the flagraisers on Iwo Jima and follows the story of those 7 men who would eventually feature in Joe Rosenthal's photograph. I certainly hope that this is what will turn out to be the "Pacific Project". Keeping my fingers crossed!
