I want to send thanks out to all at FR who sent prayers and other words of support and comfort to me. My Dad was the greatest man I'll ever know. A patriot who served first as a fighter pilot in the 1950's, the pilot of the C-119's and later C-130's, he was honored at Ft. Snelling national ceremony.
Your prayers and well-wishes were helpful to me,and my mom saw some of your responses on the prayer thread and was very touched. Your expressions of faith and prayers, I'm convinced, have kept me strong (from collapsing ).

I thought I was prepared for the loud volley of shots but man!! those shots were loud. The serviceman who folded the casket flag was about 30 years old with forearms bigger than Popeye. Dad was also on strip alert, read to attack Cuba during the Missle crisis. He also flew Gen. Swartzkopf and his team over to Saudi during Desert Shield. He loved flying a 4' by 6' flag in the front yard. He was given the best burial spot area in the entire cemetary. Thanks for caring about him.

Your Dad was a true American hero.
My brother-in-law was just buried at Fort Snelling 2 weeks ago. Clarence *Bud* Larson.
He fought in WW2 under George Patton.

There is no doubt, if he served Patton he was tough. Sorry for your loss also. Maybe he's having a Martini with my dad right now. Were the ones who suffer; they're having a ball. Prayers to you.

Prayers for you and your Mom. Your Dad was a true American hero. Although that ache in your heart will never disappear, it will get easier with time.
Take care.

I buried my Mother with honors in February. She was a navy nurse during Korea and quite proud of her service. We had representatives from all branches of service. I have the flag in one of those nice flag display boxes. It was very hard to hear the words... a greatful nation etc. My Dad-also a navy veteran-died in 1994. He too had a military funeral. The pain never goes away, but as time passes, you don't think about it every minute of every day. My prayers are with you. God bless you and yours.

I suppose it depends on one's faith in the matter, and I won't try to press mine on you, but if it helps, consider that while you are praying for him, he is praying for you, and with much greater cause. Bless you both.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family. My brother and uncle had military funerals last year, and while we are very proud of the duty they did, it's so painful to make it through the military funeral. As some have posted before, grieve as you must and the days will become easier to get through. My prayers are with you.

Thanks to you. It helps to hear from others who have been through this.
