Throw Away Those Yellow Ribbons, Because Johnny Is Never Marching Home

By Chuck Baldwin

Food For Thought From The Chuck Wagon

July 18, 2003

In spite of the fact that our brave fighting men have now assumed the unflattering role of Iraqi policemen, the word from The Pentagon is, "Our troops are not coming home anytime soon." That's the understatement of the year!

The truth is, our troops are never coming home! The United States currently has military personnel in nearly 120 countries around the world, and President Bush is about to make it one more as he prepares to send troops to Liberia.

The forces that fought the war against Iraq are understandably chagrined. Soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq voiced their grievances on ABC's Good Morning America recently. One soldier declared, "If [Defense Secretary] Donald Rumsfield were here, I'd ask for his resignation." He continued by saying, "I would ask him why we are still here. I don't have a clue as to why we are still in Iraq."

What the brave soldier and many Americans do not understand is the United States is no longer an independent country. It is a global empire carrying out the whims and wishes of the internationalist cabal at the United Nations. Therefore, even after the 3rd Infantry Division returns from Iraq (whenever that is), American troops will yet be left in harm's way all over the world.

In an attempt to deride me for my criticism of the Bush administration's policy in Iraq, a reader wrote, "We did not go to war with Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction. (Funny, I could have sworn that's the reason Bush gave.) We went to war because Iraq violated 17 UN resolutions, yet the UN lacked the backbone to respond." Actually, this reader is absolutely correct.

Yes, my friends, America went to war against Iraq to do the bidding of the United Nations! And that's the same reason our troops remain in Iraq. Furthermore, that's the reason our troops are languishing in over 100 countries around the world. Our political leaders have become pawns of multinational corporations and entities. They do not act independently; neither do they act in the best interests of our troops or our people. It's all about money and power on a global scale.

Perhaps this helps explain why the House of Representatives voted this week 74-350 to reject Rep. Ron Paul's bill to get America out of the United Nations. Therefore, throw away those yellow ribbons, because Johnny is never marching home!

The same U.N. that kept passing resolutions telling Saddam "you'd better comply or else!" and then when he didn't comply, "or else" meant, "Well, okay, we'll let it go this time, but you'd better comply one of these days, or else!"

Seems to me the "bidding" of the U.N. was to do nothing. That is not what the U.S. did.

You noticed that slight deviation from reality too, huh...

Chuck Baldwin is a nutcase.

Care to guess how long the 1st Infantry Division remained in Germany on occupation duties after WWII ended? The answer is 10 years. The 1st Infantry Division was in Germany until 1955 when it returned to Fort Riley in Kansas. And that was after the 1st Infantry Division had fought from 1942, starting in Tunisia, till May of 1945 when the 1st Infantry Division ended up in Czechoslovakia. Now of course the 1st Infantry Division didn't have the same set of troops from 1942 through 1955, but this background information with regard to what our military has done in past conflicts does make one wonder about the arguments being espoused by people like Mr. Baldwin. Perhaps Mr. Baldwin thinks that WWII shouldn't have been fought because the 1st Infantry Division had to remain on garrison duty in Germany for 10 years after the war had ended.

Bosnia? Kosovo? Were are the liberal voices that insisted we police the world; that our men and women fight and keep the peace under different flags?

From here on out American military will only defend America - and that is exactly what they are doing and doing it beautifully, terrorism and the Saddams of the world have no countries or borders and many of these terrorists hide in the United Nations, an organization that does nothing to stop corrupt countries and their leaders, they actually by their ineptness, encourage terrorism. Let your elected and your President hear from you - we need to leave the United Nations and clean up our own State Department and we need to do this ASAP.

Apparantly some Americans understand this "Two-Party Cartel" & the views of mine. The best thing to all of you that feel that this president/Congress & future ones are doing a great job is that they will all be voted back in at a rate even higher than they were in the old Soviet Union. The will of the people?? G-O-N-E! Some 70% plus want us out of the UN as do they want our borders secured. And what's the action of this bought & paid for by the elites Congress? Put some ice on it.

As #42 lacked backbone to respond...when the Roman empire taxed its citizens outrageously for its welfare state, Rome had to keep conquering and conquering...

First off, a one year tour is not that long! Secondly, the troops haven't come home from Bosnia and Yugoslavia yet either. Why wasn't Baldwin complaining about that 3 years ago?

I don't think Baldwin is talking about one-year tours-of-duty. He is talking about U.S. forces be perpetually placed all over the world -- from Haiti to Korea. Obviously, he knows a year or two in Iraq would not be excessive or unusual, but he thinks troops will still be there in 20 to 50 years, as I read his column.

It may be that Baldwin was complaining about Clinton's military commitments, but I did not discover his column until about six months ago.

Shhhh, Chuck. That's not the 'latest' reason given.

While I think the writer is a bit off the mark, as to the reasons we went into Iraq--which may include some of those he cites, but also include a number of others, less easily evaluated--he is on the mark, in drawing attention to the ridiculous lack of an early exit strategy. Although, I, frankly, am still ambivalent as to the justifications for the War, though proud of the performance of our young men in combat, and of the success of our technology, I think that we need to insist on an early termination of leaving our youth in a veritable firing range, where every fanatic in sight can take pot shots at them.

Iraq has been thoroughly defeated as even a regional military power. There is no military justification for our continued presence once the current search for Weapons of Mass Destruction is completed. We need an exit strategy, and we need it now--before the career internationalists in our State Department, sacrifice any more Americans to trying to remake other peoples.

I'm sure when enough young men are drilled in civilian disarmament skill-building exercises they'll be allowed to come home where those displaying the best skills can find jobs in The Department of Fatherland Defense. Was that the sort of exit strategy you had in mind? Me neither. Now, I wonder if maybe some of our servants have that sort of exit strategy in mind?

The only thing X42 needed to do, what Bush I needed to do, and W, Nixon et al need to do was to do exactly what President Reagan did: when presented with aggression, make plain that it was suicide to attack the US, and that nothing could stop the President/US from retaliating.

Dims just give the aggressors foreign aid.

Don't worry.

We will indeed have our day in the sun.

Indeed we will.

When the regime in Pyongyang, North Korea falls within the next year, either due to an internal collapse or coup d' etat or American military victory, you can be sure our intel. ops guys or S. Korean conservative newspaper's journalists, will be ALL THROUGH the North Korean intelligence agency files and they no doubt in my mind are going to come up with INCREDIBLY DAMAGING THINGS ON THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION appeasement and bribes of North Korea, and the shameless activity of Clinton's half brother Roger in communist Pyongyang with his exploitable behavior. Etc. you name it. All of these Democrats will be either under a rock for fear or embarrassment, or they will be hauled up before tribunals for charges of treason, IMHO

Just be patient.
