IRAQ SOUGHT 500 TONS OF URANIUM FROM AFRICA
Middle East Newsline ^ | July 14, 2003

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The CIA employed information from British intelligence that Baghdad had sought to purchase up to 500 tons of pure uranium from Africa.

The CIA disclosed the extent of its intelligence on Iraq's nuclear procurement efforts in Africa in a statement on Friday that quoted from a classified report drafted in 2002. The agency acknowledged that it had failed to warn President George Bush against referring to the British report that Iraq was negotiating with Niger for uranium.

Bush raised the allegation of Iraqi-Niger uranium talks in his State of the Union address in January. In his address, Bush said, "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

But the CIA said that less than a year ago it had reported an Iraqi effort to procure a large amount of uranium from Niger. In October 2002, the U.S. intelligence community produced a classified National Intelligence Estimate that determined that Iraq was reconstituting its nuclear weapons program. The NIE referred to Iraqi-Niger negotiations to sell up to 500 tons of uranium to Baghdad.

The media will not be deterred by the TRUTH.

Saw Chuck Hagel on with Aaron Brown bashing CONDI, RUMSFELD, CHENEY, etc. etc. It was so sickening.

The NYT has now declared that this issue has cost us our credibility with the rest of the world.

Of course, they have been saying we no credibility in the first place.........

The NYT is in no position to talk about credibility.

I have been listening to this stuff all day long. The media is ignoring what President Bush actually said, and going with the dems on how his credibility is gone etc. We all knew they were the DNC propaganda machine although they constantly denied it. Let's see them deny it now. Our security is being undermined for the sake of politics as usual from the evil ones, and I don't mean the foreign terrorists.

Could you help me clarify something? Didn't El Baradei saying during one of the UN meetings leading up to the war, that the document we provided in regard to the uranium was forged? I don't recall days and days of media handwringing. Now, we have Tenet apologizing, Rice saying (and I really don't understand why) it shouldn't have been in the State of the Union Address and the British standing by their intelligence. The timing and the frenzy surrounding this entire issue seem manufactured to me. The media should have jumped at El Baradei's statement and investigated, that they didn't tells me that this is an orchestrated effort of Bush detractors.

I thought Chris Matthews HEAD was going to explode tonight, talking about this.

He even had the audacity to have Rahm Emanuel on and he asked him if Clinton would have ever had this kind of problem.

As far as I am concerned I now consider the evil ones domestic terrorists because they have absolutely no loyalty to America, to our military, or its citizens. I have never witnessed anything like the media in the last week in particular -- they should be fired for what they are saying. I have lost a lot of respect for Fox News during the day this last week as well -- the others I already had no respect for!

Wonder if it is in the UN transcripts. I did some reporting on here of the UN meetings as they were going on and if I remember right I put up the transcripts when they came out or at least some of them!

Not meaning to put a damper on the ol' parade of whatever this is being called but perhaps someone could answer a question. From the Arms Control Association site, I find
This means that about 3,500 warheads in Russia, containing roughly 84 metric tons of fissile material, will be removed from deployment over the next decade.
discussing Russian nuclear arms. Now if 84 tons of material constitute 3500 warheads, how exactly was Hussein planning to use 500 tons of the stuff? Even if there was a 50% loss in production of the uranium to make it weapons grade, that would still constitute what amounts to three times what the Russians have in 3500 warheads. Sorry, if there was such a deal, which I don't believe there was, does anyone honestly believe that Iraq could handle 100,000 pounds of uranium?!?
