Wait a minute! I thought the Supreme Court ruled years ago that there was no practical role for a sawed-off shotgun in military combat use and therefore it didn't fit the militia criteria for 2nd Amendment protection. Perhaps that decision needs to be revisited.

Actually they ruled that no such evidence was presented, and that the lower court was wrong to accept the contention that the second amendment protected keeping and bearing "such an instrument", absent it.

The case (Miller) was sent back to the lower court for "further proceedings", that is a trial where such evicdence could have been introduced, but Miller was dead by then and his co-defendent then plead guilty and got 5 years probation, which he successfully compleated. Thus no "further proceedings" were ever held.
