an alternative hypothesis is the marriage market, like all other markets respond to supply and demand.
With far more females than males going to college and few college educated females are attracted to non college going males, it is a "buyers market" for males. Many females, not so many males and males no longer have to committ to marriage to get what they want.
Result, more males than apprear to be committment phobic.

This is a rather misogynist article. I tend to agree with you instead.
Colleges have made themselves into hostile environments for many males, who avoid them, while it takes a while for females who have been there to realize that college is not the real world. By then they're trying so hard to push their careers that they don't start seriously looking until all the quality males have been snapped up.
I.e., the women complaining just aren't realistic early enough about the compromises they have to make for marriage.
