BRICK, N.J., July 11 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is an announcement from the New Jersey Coalition for Self Defense:

"On behalf of the New Jersey Coalition for Self Defense, we wish to express our sincere condolences to the families and victims of the grim events in Meridien, Mississippi, and Bakersfield, California, which have captured so much attention from the press and media this past week.

"Lest we become distracted by media sensationalism in this time of sadness, we would like to take pause to reflect on some realities of the world in which we live.

"There is a theme common to these two incidents: the victims were defenseless because of government or corporate edict.

"Lockheed-Martin prohibits employees from carrying weapons. States such as California and New Jersey prohibit just about any type of tool for self defense, especially firearms. History continues to prove that a disarmed population is a recipe for tragedy. Although two employees tried to disarm Douglas Williams, when a unarmed person tries to subdue an armed person, the result is both predictable, and unfortunate.

"We wish to emphasize that the Meridian event ran a full 10-minutes, with no assistance from the police. Had a civilian who was carrying a handgun been present, there is high probability that there would have been no victims at all, other than a would-be perpetrator. Sadly, there was no such someone, and 5 people lie dead, due to ignorant, irresponsible, policy.

"Once again, we see validated our position that Police are law enforcement, not crime prevention. They cannot be everywhere, and we cannot bet our lives on them, as though our existence were no more important than betting on an Atlantic City slot machine.

"The police cannot protect you. Your employer cannot protect you. You are ultimately responsible for your own protection. Employers like Lockheed, and state governments such as California and New Jersey, who inhibit individuals from defending themselves, should be held accountable, when our fellow citizens are victimized by policy and legislation.

"Unfortunately, court decisions have exempted states from such accountability, and legislators vote themselves immunity from the laws they force upon us. So it is up to the citizens to remove from office those politicians who refuse to restore citizens' right of self defense. We don't need more gun control. We need legislator control."

Source: The New Jersey Coalition for Self Defense is a volunteer citizens' non-profit organization, whose purpose is to perform a public education service with respect to our Civil, Human and Constitutional rights, provide training on practical principles of effective self defense for personal, family and public safety, and promote traditional American libertarian principles.

One of our many goals is to effect positive change to New Jersey's current public policy of discouraging, penalizing, and even criminalizing, legitimate and necessary acts and methods of self defense and to pursue these policy changes through legislative initiatives, grassroots activism and statewide public information campaigns.

good find. I like this statement.

I'm just surprised that so few people were packing at work that day in Meridian. Had this happened in Jackson, I can assure you that things would have been different. Almost everybody I know carries.

Once again, we see validated our position that Police are law enforcement, not crime prevention.
=========================
Guys, This is the crux of the crime "prevention" by police myth/hoax used by the gungrabbers. Police CANNOT "prevent" crime!! Self defense is an inherent right that supercedes any and ALL laws/rules/regulations no matter the source. Peace and love, George.

I hope this thread and concept get a little traction.

i plan to use this logic in applying to the maryland state police for the right to carry concealed or on the hip... either way, they'll say no and i'll go to court...
