Let's see - he was supposedly a Christian opposed to adultery who was living with his girlfriend in the "final stages" of his marriage.

OK.

There's a disconnect here.

"He upset the teenagers by expressing that anyone who divorced and remarried was living in adultery and would burn in Hell for that sin."

But those who shack up with co-workers during the divorce process are okay, I guess.

The late John Newton Mitchell cynically addressed that dichotomy when he told liberals during the first Nixon administration to "watch what we do, not what we say."

I think it's time to retire the name Doug Williams. There's too many of them, and I forget who each story is about.

Shirley Price's parents, Curtis and Frances Rawson, said their daughter dated Doug Williams for 16 years and had plans for marriage.

"Doug was just a fine fellow," Frances Rawson said during an interview on the front porch Doug Williams helped build. "He'd do anything in the world for you. I have asked myself why a lot since this happened. I just don't have any idea."

Curtis said Williams was not a racist, as fellow employees have alleged.

Those fellow employees who reported on his repeated bouts of racist statements, threats and conduct, as well as his "warnings" and threat assessment counseling include some of his surviving shooting victims as well as spouses of some of the deceased.

Had John Newton Mitchell not gone into law and politics, he could have been a (stone-faced) comedian!

They dated for 16 years and had plans for marriage. I wonder what they were waiting for?

I'm sorry, but I don't believe anyone who is dating for 16 years is in a big hurry to get married.

Nice reference.

I guess what I was trying to point out was that back in 1988 he was posing as a devout Christian. He spent, according to article, the past 16 years living with a woman not his wife.

The media is spinning this as "A devout Christian who was also a gun nut and a racist snapped and killed people" with the obvious implication that anyone believes in the Bible and the Constitution is a ticking, mass-murdering timebomb.

You forgot the additional epithet that he was a Bubba, a redneck good old boy Southerner.

Wouldn't he have described himself as being all of those things?

Yeah, he was a real sweetie--who just happens to be a mass murderer, a mass murderer who was a ticking time bomb for a long, long time.

I'm sure he would have. And Chairman Mao described himself as the greatest humanitarian in history.

Truth is objective, not subjective.

I've got some really nice in-laws. But if one of them went on a shooting rampage, I've got better sense than talk about how loving and kind he was, especially at a memorial service for his victims!!

The most I'd say in public is, "I never knew he was so wacked out. But I've been telling him for years he needs professional help and he never listened to me."

The point is to quikly disavow people when they act like this guy - not to blame it on employee seminars, PC notions in society, or any other excuse.

You call them what they are - sick, pathetic losers who deserve nothing but contempt.

I agree.

If only he'd turned the gun on himself first.
