"The problem with a new technology is that society has yet to come up with a common understanding about appropriate behavior,"
"Appropriate behavior" is an entirely subjective standard and attempting to enforce one person's view of it upon another is a form of oppression, which is exactly what I told the guy when he approached me about using my camera phone in the locker room at my gym.

" In Yokohama, Japan, an 18-year-old female store clerk used her camera phone to take a photo of a 38-year-old man who was fondling her on a commuter train. She called police during the train ride and presented her phone shots as evidence. The man was arrested at the next stop."Love it. Superb use of the technology. Quick thinking on the young lady's part, as well.

Anyone who takes an 'up the skirt shot' or 'over the stall' shot of me will find their camera in a most inconvenient place.

My health club has banned all cell phones in the lockeroom to eliminate the temptation of some to snap photos. Now if I could only convince management to ban cell phones in the workout room so I don't have to listen to some jerk drone on and on about nothing for an hour as he/she pretends to exercise.

I used my PDA's digital camera to snap pictures of item descriptions/prices at Costco. Much easier/faster than writing it down.

I worked in bookstores for several years, people often hand copied page after page of information from our books and magazines, f course they did not buy them after that, just got up and walked out.
I cannot see much difference here.
