When Clinton was there, times were different. Are these folks out of touch with the "new reality"?

Let me guess. The State Department planned this one.

This flatly contradicts all the video footage I have seen. Typical Reuters lies.

Sounds like the right security precautions were taken. Everybody on foreign soil is a potential terrorist these days, as the US soldiers in Iraq are finding out.

"When Clinton came, he shook hands, people danced," said former Mayor Urbain Alexandre DiagneClinton came? I hoped they washed their hands too.

My opinion is that a U.S. President should not "visit" any people where the security requirements are such that the "people" aren't actually visited.
If the Senegals made the decision to "detain" it's people for the event, we (the U.S. Gov.) should make a big stink about it.
If the U.S. Gov. knew in advance that this would happen and went along with it, that was a stupid decision.

Oh please, everyone on U.S. soil is a potential terrorist too.
And I can't say I really agree with shutting everyone away, as the article suggests. But on the same token, I don't believe it was as bad as the article suggests either.
Let's chalk this one up to inflating the facts to suit the needs of the story.

Sounds like the right security precautions were taken.Indeed. I had a strong sense to pray for his safety while he was speaking.
I watched his speech this morning - it was incredible!

Yep. The journalist just couldn't help but to draw the slavery analogy and assign it to the President.

N'diaye and other residents of Goree, site of a famous slave trading station, said they had been taken to a football ground on the other side of the quaint island at 6 a.m. and told to wait there until Bush had departed, around midday.Well, when the Sinkmaster's motorcade rolled through midtown Manhattan about 2.5 years ago, those of us who had the misfortune to be trying to get home or just go about our business were forced to stand on the block where we were for at least a half hour before he rolled by.

Goree Island With a name like that, perhaps they'd rather it were somebody else visiting? Somebody sort of tree-like?

I agree. If the residents were overly inconvenienced for the sake of a photo op, then our going along with it was indeed a bad move. A certain amount of inconvenience is to be expected with the visit of any dignitary and I suspect Clinton's visit caused some problems for the locals too (that they now conveniently forget), but if the security precautions were such that they had to evacuate the entire village to stage this event, then perhaps the propriety of holding such an event should have been seriously questioned.
Bad publicity goes alot farther than good publicity.

This flatly contradicts all the video footage I have seen. Typical Reuters lies. The Left Wing media goes out of their way to get negative stories. No balance as usual in this story. I guess Reuters couldn't find even a single person who enjoyed his visit. SHEESH.
