The Difference Between the Boy Scouts and the Taliban

The Philadelphia Daily News owes a big apology to the Boy Scouts of America.

Last week, the Daily News ran an editorial asking, "What's the difference between the Taliban and the Boy Scouts?" Any decent newspaper would be quick to point out the differences, and the differences are stark. But not the Daily News.

The editorial continued. "Given the latest Boy Scout flap, we can't help being disturbed by similarities between the Afghan fundamentalist group and the homophobic American shapers of youth."

The rhetoric of the left and its allies is becoming very predictable.

They can go tell all the Presidents, astronauts, Senators, athletes, brothers, dads, uncles, nephews etc who have been Boy Scouts at one time or another they are just like the guys locked up at Camp X-Ray.

Philly is still on my place of un American cities to avoid.

They beat up good people on the street and hate American institutions.

There is no more unfriendly and hateful place in all of America than "the City of Brotherly Love."

The Daily News is the only newspaper I've ever read that used the word "Dised" in a serious news story, as in "Yesterday, Saddam Hussein dised the United States again."

It's generally looked to for Sports coverage and the soon to be Pulitzer Prize winning "Yo!" section.  Wrap a fish in it and it will be rotten by the time you get it home...

You should try Kansas City. Or Boston. I've had much nastier experiences there than in Philly.

Wouldn't that be "dissed?"

"Dised" would seem to be a misspelling of what you do to an onion. :)

Glad to see that this has come back up.

Check out an earlier posting for not only some interesting reading but also a link for the offending paper where you can and hopefully will let them politely know wht you think of them.

As a city Philly really is a non-entity. Everything that is worth seeing in the place dates from a distant past. Its schools are mediocre, and, to think of a famous Philadelphian who is still alive is really a waste of time. There must be someone, but if you have to think hard, it, like the city, isn't worth it.

You're right.  I need to upgrade from the ebono-checker 5.9 to the new 6.1 version! ;-)

Philadephia calling itself "The City of Brotherly Love." is like the used car salesman who has to call himself "Honest Bill".

You just can't trust them.
