NEW YORK (AP) -- Boston is halfway to a massacre of its own.

The Red Sox blew out the New York Yankees for the second straight day, hitting three more home runs and getting five shutout innings from Ramiro Mendoza in a 10-2 win Saturday that brought them within two games of the AL East leader.

"Everybody knows we swing the bat," said David Ortiz, who homered twice for the second straight day. "We're not afraid."

Great comeback. And as a Chicago Cubs fan, believe me, I have some idea how you feel. I'm also convinced the Red Sox would never have gotten as close as they did against the Mets without Bill Buckner. The guy was absolutely awesome with the number of RBI's alone in a sub-par year for him. People forget that Buckner routinely played hurt with taped up ankles and braced knees. He wasn't trying to be a hero. He just was better injured than most players were healthy. People also don't remember that Billy Bucks had one of the lowest strikeout to hits ratios in baseball. The game he supposedly lost only tied the seiries too. The Red Sox absolutely stunk on the pivotal seventh game.

You won't be the only one pleased to see the Sox whip the Yankess this year. And don't forget, even Massachusetts voted for Ronald Reagan twice!

Well, well. What a difference a day makes. Pettitte sets the BoSox down like lambs today, and suddenly there's no "Bronx Massacre". It proves the old adage that momentum comes down to today's starting pitcher.

If the Yanks beat Pedro tomorrow, the status quo will resume, with the sox 4 games out, and those two blowout wins a distant memory.

Ages today if they witnessed it. If 5 in 1918 90. If 10 in 1918 95. If 15 in 1918 100 If 20 in 1918 105. Boston won the very first world series in 1903 too. If anyone is alive today who witnessed that one they are well over 100. On a bright note we are 5 years away from the 100th anniversary of the last Cubs World Series Championship.
