"In Ecuador, Japanese can, according to the men's weekly, hunt for children in a different manner as they are armed with a rifle and permitted to track down a youth let loose in the jungle."

unbelievable.

Exactly. This "story" brings out my old journalist's cynicism -- especially after reading the disclaimer at the end of the piece which won't vouch for its accuracy. The newsroom motto used to be: "Don't trust what anybody tells you, including your Mother. Check everything out."

Some of this stuff may really be happening. Slavery is certainly an ongoing business in many parts of the world and it needs a lot more attention than it's getting. And it's no secret that Japanese sexual mores are plenty kinky with a seriously unhealthy focus on rape and violence. But this story is so loosely sourced and based on hearsay I have a problem accepting it as it stands.
