Why American Chaos Reigns in Iraq

1. Why American Chaos Reigns in Iraq

Chaos continues to reign in Iraq because of the State Department's meddling, NewsMax has learned.

A high-ranking Reagan administration official, who has talked to several Americans working in liberated Iraq, says the situation “is chaotic, and remains more chaotic than the press is reporting.”

The culprit for the troubles: the State Department.

As has been described to us, there is not one interim U.S. authority in Iraq, but two, one with orders from Foggy Bottom liberals who oppose President Bush, and the other from the Defense Department.

A few weeks ago, the New York Times published a chart detailing how State and Defense have separate and competing organizational charts in the interim authority that mirror one another.

Understandably, it has created mass confusion.

For one thing, State hates the Iraqi National Congress, headed by Ahmed Chalabi. It doesn’t want him and INC to get the upper hand during the U.S. occupation. Anything involving Chalabi is being vetoed by State, which hates the pro-American Iraqi leader.

Meanwhile, disputes between State and Defense invariably fall in the lap of U.S. administrator Paul Bremer.

Bremer has consistently sided with the State Department, NewsMax is told.

Much of the crisis was a direct result of State’s refusal to allow the U.S. to begin recruiting Iraqi nationals who live in the U.S. before the war even began - a group that could have helped staff the interim authority.

Again, State feared that Chalabi’s group, tied so well to the Iraqi immigrant groups here in the U.S., would be in the driver’s seat in a free Iraq.

Thanks to Foggy Bottom, Iraq remains in a mess. Who has the upper hand now? A source says that the Baath party and its cutthroat members are still a major force.

Also, the Iranians have launched a major covert operation to gain control of the Shia population by backing a Shia political party, while controlling the Imams and mosques.

Clearly, the State Department needs to be swept aside.

It has taken the wrong side in almost every major U.S. policy initiative last century (it opposed Reagan’s successful attempt to bring down the Evil Empire) and is now overseeing the Castro-ization of Latin America.

Sadly, unlike all previous Republican administrations, President Bush has used career State Department officials to fill almost all of the major policy positions at State and the National Security Council. Previous presidents had tapped only people who shared his views and policies.

And with Iraq, now is the time to begin a MacArthur-style occupation. Restore order first; worry about democracy later. If we don’t, we’ll end with neither in Iraq.

Couldn't agree more; and they shouldn't stop at State. The cleansing should be throughout all Departments.

Has anyone wondered why this was not done immediately, like many of us had hoped when we helped elect George W.. Has anyone wondered why it has not even begun two and a half years later. Inquiring minds SHOULD want to know.

Very direct and to the point. Off with the gloves and subdue the combatants without regard to PC and what the other Muslim nations might say.

No, but your could reassign them to Indian affairs in the Barrow strights. Move their desks to the parking lot. Send them to Libera on special assignment.
