BURBANK, Calif. (AP) - Arnold Schwarzenegger refuses to terminate rumors of a run for governor while promoting his latest movie, joking that: ``You haven't seen special effects like this since the California state budget.''

Schwarzenegger's advisers have said he will decide whether to run after the July 2 release of his movie and only if it becomes clear that an effort under way to recall Gov. Gray Davis will qualify for the ballot.

I'm pretty sure Arnold's just trying to sell movie tickets via a gullible free press.

He's nothing if not a capitalist.

I don't think so. He's running, and he'll win.

Arnie would be a bigger disaster than Simon - this can be expected from candidates with no prior significant elective office, let alone those with no election experience at all. Issa would do a lot better. I personally want McClintock.

But run away from Arnie. Newbies are rarely successful in runs for statewide office. There are exceptions, but Simon proved the general rule.

It was in effect an announcement!

Jay refered to him in the present tense as "The Govener".

Well, that's how he pronounced it, even though the word is spelled governor.

Jay looked right at the camera with the serious conviction of insider knowledge when he said that about his beloved pal of several decades.

So you can only run for office if you've...held office before?

I'm pretty sure Arnold's just trying to sell movie tickets via a gullible free press.

If Arnold really wanted to run, he would be actively working for the recall to succeed. Instead he says he won't make a decision until he is certain the recall will take place. UHHH HUHHH!!! That makes about as much sense as man who supposedly wants to be president saying I will not decide if I want to run for President until I get the nomination.

I note one other point that does not pass the Jerry Lewis smell test. The recall people are doing something that requires public participation. The public has to sign those petitions. Yet the people that are doing the recall constantly say they have it made.. they will easily garner all the signatures they need and more.

Every year Jerry Lewis in his telethon raises lots of money. He constantly tells people during the Telethon that unless they give and give now the telethon will fail. Only in the last hour does he reveal that it was indeed a great success.

What do you think would happen if half way through the telethon Lewis claimed that reaching the telethon goal was assured? Right! The phones would stop ringing and the telethon would not reach its goal.

It seems to me that the recall supporters should be saying that only if all the people who want Davis recalled sign and sign now will Davis be gone. Instead of boasting that they have it made, they would plead for signatures. Then when it was done, they could talk about how easy it was.

Can you imagine a presidential candidate claiming victory before all the polls closed? Remember Reagan in his 1984 race would only say he was cautiously optimistic. He constantly pleaded for everyones votes even though he knew he was going to win 49 out of the 50 states.

The reports are that re-callers have just under 500,000 valid signatures certified by the state. That is a little over half way. Perhaps there is enough hatred of Davis to take it over the top. However, claiming victory before a victory is achieved is not good politics. It is a reason for those who have not taken time to sign the petitions to say... "Why bother, they don't need my signature."

The media people who don't want the recall fully understand the situation..... they will not do "the recall almost there if you help" stories.

The media will do "Recall backers Lied to Press" story. The recall had best be a slam dunk. If the rate of signatures gathering starts to fall, the media will attack the recall people as much as they can.

I am not certain yet, and Arnold appears to not be certain either, that the recall is going to happen. If it does it will not be because the backers ever understood how to gain support for a cause and make it to a goal.

They need to watch Jerry Lewis to learn how it is done.
