I've trying some different wines. I wouldn't buy French wine at gunpoint. I'm amazed at how good the Idaho wines are that I've tried. I haven't tried any Australian wines, but I hear they've got some really good stuff, too.
[And I love it when I see signs in the windows of small stores that insist they do not sell French products. In fact, I saw one store sign that said that if you find a French product in their store, they'll pull it off the shelves and give you a comparable product from a different country for free.]

flagging sales to the United States left an air of gloom over the Vinexpo wine fair in Bordeaux
Let them drink their own freakin' wine.

I'm sure this would get me laughed out of about any decent restaurant,
(and I am NOT any sort of wine fancier)...but the best tasting wine
I've had is one that a friend got from one of the small vineyards that are close to the
interstate highway that runs from Joplin to St. Louis.
This was years ago, but I think the vineyard was run by a Catholic order.

I have to admit, I've never found anything I like from Chile or Australia. Perhaps you could recommend something in a Cabernet, Shiraz, or Sangiovese? At what price point? (Incidentally, I'm largely with you on Chile. Great potential, poorly executed. And, IMHO, no Sangiovese compares to Italian Chianti in value.)

Mrs clintonh8r and some friends and I enjoyed a bottle of nice California chard tonight. I doubt we'll ever buy another bottle of French wine.

"Over the past two months we've seen a fall of practically 25 percent, and that's more worrying," Feredj said. "But we think it's a phenomenon that will fade away with time." I agree... in another 40 years we may have forgotten French betrayals.

''There's been a drop of 14 percent in March and 22 percent in April in sales of French wine,'' said New York wine importer Timothy Enos at the 12th biennial Vinexpo salon, describing the U.S. backlash against French products as ''ridiculous and excessive.''They are like my husband. He doesn't understand after all these years that saying 'don't be ridiculous,' or don't be silly,' is not going to get him out of the dog house.

I grew up (3 to 14) on a farm outside Joplin, just four miles west of Diamond Missouri. We had wild grapes on the property. We picked them each summer. Wow, they were excellent. They were tart but very good.
