Energy Bill's Slick Language Could Usher In Offshore Drilling

Benefits would be nil. And risks could be grave: Just ask Santa Barbara about the disastrous gunk onslaught of 1969.

By Bob Graham and Dianne Feinstein, Bob Graham is a Democratic senator from Florida. Dianne Feinstein is a Democratic senator from California.

The Senate is debating an energy bill that is a bad piece of legislation.

The bill would do nothing to combat the growing problem of global warming, nothing to raise fuel economy standards for light trucks and sport utility vehicles to decrease our dependency on foreign oil, nothing to increase our use of renewable and alternative sources of energy and nothing to prevent another energy crisis like the one on the West Coast caused by the fraud and manipulation of Enron and other greedy corporations.

The Gulf Coast has managed to survive occasional spills for 50 years.
If the East and West Coasts are too effete for drilling, then they should buy a lot of candles and walking shoes.

Just ask Santa Barbara about the disastrous gunk onslaught of 1969.

Did they close the offshore wells near Santa Barbara after this? Nope, so the frequency of occurance is pretty low, and with modern technology, the probabilities are even lower.

Secondly, was Santa Barbara made uninhabitable? If so, for how long? I'll bet it wasn't.

This one quote is a good example of the fear and hysteria practiced by the enviro-weenies.
