AUSTIN (AP) - Two people have been arrested and charged with smuggling Chinese women into Texas and using them as sex slaves in a prostitution ring, police said.
Officials said the brothels are part of a nationwide network that lures unsuspecting women from China. The women are promised jobs, but when they arrive in United States they are held as prisoners at various locations throughout the country and turned into indentured sex slaves.
The women are forced to stay at the brothels until they work off the cost of their passage. The captors set the price between $50,000 to $60,000, police said.
