Effort mounted to strip Border Patrol of hollow-point bullets

A campaign aiming to change controversial ammunition used by the U.S. Border Patrol is under way. Critics of "controlled expansion bullets" contend the hollow-point bullets - used by the Border Patrol since the 1970s - are unnecessarily lethal.

When a Washington, D.C.-based legal support group learned that the agency requested a five-year supply of the rounds, it saw an opportunity to attack their use. "We don't think that (hollow points) are necessary, they cause massive injuries," said Donald Kerwin, executive director of Washington, D.C.,- based Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. "We were shocked to find that they're standard issue for the Border Patrol and other immigration agents."

We should go even further. We should take away their guns and clubs. They could just have little "time-out" cards to hand out to the people who are shooting at them.

A spokesman for ICE, Greg Palmore, said hollow-points meet all Department of Justice use-of-force policies. "Overall, any handgun can cause a fatality if used incorrectly," he said, adding that hollow points also don't travel through doors or walls.

So what's the correct way to use a handgun?

Grijalva said. "I can't connect the argument that they're safer because they don't go through people."

Then Mr. Grijalva, you are an idiot.

Why not just turn the border patrol into a welcome wagon? Hey, nice to see you, glad you dropped by on your way to freeloading in our nation.

To help you on your way here's a list of government programs you may find of interest. If you'll just tell us where you're headed, we'll try to call ahead and find housing, get your papers filed and make sure those payments start right away.

Don't forget, we're here to help.

Since law enforcement is using a sidearm to stop the immanent death of the officer firing, at least in theory and since the US border Patroll covers both urban and rural areas I recommend that the critics of JHP ammunition shut up. The probability of stopping an attack on one;sself with a FMJ hollow point is less than with an equivalent JHP according to both critics and supporters of using JHP ammunition. If the argument were advanced that the FMJ rounds made the officers safer then there could be some debate.

As it is since the question is who's life should the government protect more A criminal in the course of commiting a crime or a law enforcement officer doing his duty the government has a responsibility to the officer.

Give the Border Patrol RPGs to take out narco vehicles and people smuggling vehicles. Give them whatever fire power they request.

As rediculous as this sounds, I am confident it is just what the left in this country would like to do.

U.S. Rep. Jim Kolbe, R.-Ariz., didn't sign the letter, said Neena Moorjani, his press secretary. She read the following statement issued by Kolbe. "It is appropriate that law enforcement officers make the decision about how best to protect the lives of their officers and least threaten individuals," Moorjani read.

For once, RINO Kolbe is on the right side of the border issue - but only on this specific point.

"Military ammo is partly designed as 'ball' ammo so that it will ricochet among other presumably hostile troops"

At the risk of sounding stupid, was that the purpose of a using a ball to shoot out of a cannon - if they were off target they could still get them on the ricochet?

"Overall, any handgun can cause a fatality if used incorrectly,"

That has got to be one of the more profoundly stupid statements in recent memory.

Ditto.......

The primary reason to carry JHP's is self defense. The primary goal of self defence is to STOP the threat. JHP's stop the threat. It is a bonus that they also don't overpenetrate and hit others.

Hey they are right take away the hollow points.

Issue wad cutters chambered for Desert Eagle Commanders and issue those to the BP.

Gee whiz think about it; a 50cal wad cutter in a semi-automatic based on the 1911A1. Now that's a perp stopper!
