SAN MATEO -- Health officials today said one new suspected case of SARS has been reported in San Mateo County and the patient has been ordered into isolation by the county health officer.

The unidentified 39-year-old man recently visited Taiwan and had agreed to isolate himself after reporting symptoms of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome on May 30. IF I found myself with a deadly, extremely contageous disease, I would REQUEST isolation to protect others.

When I was young, I read a book about Typhoid Mary. I found her to be horribly selfish--to say the least!

I consider insisting on your "rights" when in this situation, to be close to attempted murder.

Failure to go in to quarantine upon showing symptoms of this disease is tantamount to murder.

I know of an older doctor who said bluntly that if we had treated HIV as a disease, and isolated people, we wouldn't be in this trouble with AIDS....

we can force isolation on some but others are politically protected...

"Physician in Chief Dr. Michelle Caughey said today that Kaiser hospital has treated other suspected cases of SARS who have received excellent treatment from the staff. "

I thought so. I missed the above 'other' cases on my first quick scan of the article.

Wait! Stop! Kaiser Permanente has by my count 52 locations in the Northern California.

The South San Francisco Location is about 25 miles from the "other thread's" Vallejo Location.

Right now, Kaiser in California in all 100 something locations has about 4 or 5 cases that may be SARS. Kaiser location list (No. CA)
