So it says I'm Obese. BFD. I'm quite healthy, my choleserol is low, and so is my BP and resting heartrate.
Even when I was at my playing weight in HS, I was considered normal, and I wear within 1 size I did then.

yikes - he was killed simply because he slipped on ice? I hope the killer is not an Olympic skating judge - though it would make for a completely different event. ;)
This BMI thing really does miss the point, as several have already noted. Yeah, I could lose about 10-15 lbs, but when I checked the chart to determine my weight to get me BMI out of the "overweight" range, I would have to weigh less than I was in high school (same height now as when I was a frosh) when I ran track and could run the 1/2 mile under (barely) 2:00.
Lots of evidence out there points to % body fat and cardiovascular capacity as more important factors than BMI.
Cheers,
RG

It shouldn't be taken seriously because it goes exclussively by weight. Muscles weigh more than fat so people with good musculature rate as "overweight" or even "obese" on the BMI (run the NFL through the calculations, it's pretty funny who's "obese"). Percentage of body fat is the key, the lower that is the healthier you'll be... to a point, too little body fat can be dangerous but most Americans don't need to fear that one.

Leave TED Washington out of this...lol
LOL...I'm a big fan of TW, as well as Tony the Goose, Gilbert B, Sam A, and the Fridge in his day. There's a lot to be said for clogging up the middle with wide bodies.
...and if Bettis shows up in the same shape he did last year....I'll add him to the "fatso" list.

I will have to give up Parker's BBQ I used to love eating Parkers BBQ. At ECU we ate a lot of it. Waited an hour then got a case of beer. Do they still have those cornbread sticks. Damn I miss those days.
To: Jimmyclyde
How can this be accurate for everyone, depending on your heritage your bone structure will be a different percentage of your total weight in regard to your height. Northern European decendents are much more heavy in bone structure than are Asians, etc.
To: Jimmyclyde
I am 6'3" and 225. I used to be 10% body fat, tested by a 7 point caliper test, at that wieght. I was no where near fat! i am now that same weight and height, but have a nice gut, so this measuerement is completley useless. It gives me no faith in doctors who even think of refrenceing this chart. It takes no consideration of muscle, which weighs more than fat, or body structure. The better measue is a 7 point caliper test, or, i think,a displacement test.

The calculations are way off.
According to it, for my weight I am supposed to be 6 feet 11 inches tall, and I am only 5 feet ten. -tom
There's a solution for that.

"A serious bodybuilder can have a BMI of 26 and not be overweight," says study leader A. Gerald Shaper, M.D., emeritus professor of clinical epidemiology at Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in London. Dr. Shaper notes, however, that even bodybuilders are in trouble once their BMI approaches 30.

I do 300 pushups plus other strength training 3 day/wk. I run 3-5 miles, 3-5 days/wk, or do 30 minutes @ 18+ mph on the stationary bike if the weather is bad. I hate you.

You know, I have never eaten at the one in Greenville!
I work pretty close to the one in Wilson, and it is exactly the same as when I was a kid.
I usually get a "large combination": barbecue, fried chicken breast, Brunswick stew, boiled potatoes, with side orders of cole slaw & those awesome corn sticks!
Good eatin'!

Gunter. One o' my "hero's". Nasser is bigger though. Probably one of the most under-rated body builders out there.
