"In her Wednesday column [in the New York Times], Maureen Dowd perhaps comes as close as she ever will to admitting she dishonestly quoted President Bush in her May 14 column on al Qaeda and the terror threat," Clay Waters writes at www.TimesWatch.org.

I saw Lloyd Grove and another mediot on CNN last night asserting that the Dowd story was basically a tempest in a teacup (my words), that she really hadn't done anything wrong. Wonderful attitude they expressed. And given their thoughts on this matter and their defense of Dowd, I bet Blair, Bragg, and Dowd are just the tip of the iceberg.

Hillary Rodham Clinton is the real voice behind Sidney Blumenthal's book "The Clinton Wars," Dick Morris charges. Just as we said; Hillary got Sidney to write all the "dirty stuff" so she could appear "above it all" in her book. Then when anybody challenges her about why she left out stuff, she can just say, "Oh, that was already covered in another book!"

Isn't that what they said about Mr. Blair in the beginning?

The only thing I can possibly say in Mo Dowd's defense, is that she is a columnist and does get more slack than a person who is writing news articles.
She is a crack, crank, whiny, and desperate to regain Michael Douglas' approval though, so it is good to see her suffer.
I don't think Howell Raines can fire Mo and keep his job. That is what this has all been about when all is said and done. Howell needs this story to die. Mo would be the third strike, and Howell would be gone.
I predict an apology column, and I expect her to do this sort of crap again in a few months after the furor has died down.
Oh, and I expect that Catherine Zeta Jones will continue to look stunning.

She's a columnist, but she ought to know the rules of journalism and what quotation marks mean. I bloody well do and I'm not a journo.

My opinion of Don Shula just took a nosedive.

She should know, and I am sure she does know. I am just saying that she isn't going to be held to the same standard as somebody who puts this on page 1, rightly or wrongly.
She should have been fired for being boring and unoriginal long before this sleazy trick.
In the meanwhile, I shall hope she is reading this here, so I will post another picture of who is snuggling with Michael Douglas instead of her.

Feel free not to hold her to the same standard. But considering that we're talking about the Times here, I don't know how she could go any lower.

My opinion of Shula sank as well. I guess I will have to add him to my ever-increasing list of people I totally discount as worthwhile.

They'll give Mo a slap on the wrist, cleverly disguised as a pat on the back.
