Pledge of Allegiance Kept in MN Schools

Staff

Most Minnesota school children will soon say the pledge of allegiance at least once a week. "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America..." The House and Senate approved a bill with the new mandate, and Governor Pawlenty is expected to sign it. It would apply to public and charter schools, although school boards could vote yearly to waive the requirement. The bill also calls for more education in flag etiquette in elementary schools. Former Governor Jesse Ventura vetoed a similar bill last year, arguing that it forced patriotism upon students.
