When automobile prices approach the cost of purchasing a home, what else could the automotive industries expect?
they've been pricing themselves right out of the market.

Is this bad news?
I's real bad for EU carmakers as they get hit with the double whammy of a rising euro.

I suppose this doesn't apply to Japanese cars----the falling dollar would cause the price of those to go up, right? Darnit, I had my eye on that new Subaru WRX STi.....

Not quite correct..the problem with older cars is the cost of replacement parts...it's obscene...and many of the computers and other chips, once they fail..you either replace it, or walk away from the car..it can't be jury-rigged....so, let's say you have a 5 year old whatever...say a Ford SUV..it's got 100k miles, you're he original owner, you've always taken care of it....maybe now it worth $10k retail....$7K wholesale...you're looking at maybe several thousand in expected repairs and maintenance....a new exhaust, new discs..maybe rebuilding a pair of calipers,,,,and a major tune-up...and that's before ANYTHING unexpectd occurs..like a A/C component..or a computer in the trans....so, it doesn't make sense to invest $5K in a $7K used car, becuase the day AFTER you write the check, it'll still be worth $7K...

Just bought a new Ford Ranger XLT last weekend, $3,000 rebate, additional discounts, free bedliner, full tank of gas and they beat the lowest rate for financing my credit union was offering. From our experience, Ford is wheeling and dealing. Felt real good about it. First time in a long time I've bought a vehicle without feeling like I got screwed.

Fords bonds are just above junk status according to an article a few months ago. This won't help

Parts are also too high. a $4000.00 1974 VW build with parts would be #38,000.00 in 1974 an increase of 9.5X. Now a $20.000 1999 Cheokee Sport would cost $275,000.00 in parts bought from a dealer. That is 13.75X the cost of the car. Parts are going through the roof. If you a Japanese car or Europe car the cost of parts is higher. This is not any after market parts.
