Industry Output Soars

MOSCOW (Reuters) -- Industrial output rose 7.1 percent year on year in April after growing 4.3 percent in the same month a year ago, beating market expectations, the State Statistics Committee said Thursday.
Industrial output rose 6.3 percent in the January-April period compared with a 3 percent rise in the first four months of 2002, the committee said in a statement posted on the government's web site, www.government.ru.
Russia, which is eager to narrow the gap with Western economies, is targeting industrial growth of 4.3 percent this year after the sector expanded 3.7 percent in 2002

Yep, that pretty much says it all. I wonder what the standard of living is for the average Russian nowadays. Do they drive good cars? Do they live in nice houses? Can they buy good food at the local supermarket? I often wonder what life is like nowadays for Ivan Sixpack.
