[history]
Tree-thinning projects to prevent catastrophic forest fires and widespread insect infestations are being widely appealed by environmental groups but are rarely upheld, a federal audit released yesterday said.
Nearly 60 percent of all fuel-reduction activities in national forests that could be appealed were done so by special interest groups, according to the report of raw data prepared by the General Accounting Office (GAO).

I am convinced that the only way to make these dangerous pests go away is to bankrupt them. When they lose these appeals they should be required to pay the costs for the government defense and be fined for being frivolous. Additionally, filing multiple appeals on the same sites smacks of collusion RICO style. If it is illegal for other citizens to be out racketeering and colluding to violate the public safety then the green weenies shouldn't be exempt. If the modern form of environmentalism isn't a racket then I don't know what is.
