The Russian military command seems to have learned the lessons of the Iraq war and now plans to demonstrate the USA and its allies the whole of Russia's resolve to strike back against any potential threat from the West, the Russian newspaper Nezavisimaya Gazeta reports. The newspaper says that as soon as NATO Secretary General George Robertson leaves the Russian capital, Moscow will immediately launch the largest military exercises it has seen in years. During the exercises, the newspaper says, Russian strategic bombers and submarine missile-carriers will simulate nuclear attacks against several military targets on the territory of the USA and Great Britain. They will also work on searching for and liquidating US Navy aircraft carriers transporting attack squadrons.
It was expected that Russia's Air Force commander-in-chief, Colonel-General Vladimir Mikhailov, will submit the plan fir the exercises for the approval of the Minister of Defense Sergey Ivanov today. Nezavisimaya Gazeta reports that the exercises are based on a scenario in which a regional conflict develops into a war.
During the exercises, the Russian troops will work

I hope this post worked.
Looks like the Russians do see us as friendlies. Sneaky bastards- thank God they've been neutered for the next 10-15 years.

I say we have some war games with the Russians and show them just why their little tactical exercises wouldn't work...

They have, arguably, the best air superiority fighter out there - what is it....SU-37, I think thats it.
The big question in my mind, is, do we really know how broke they are? Could be playing possum. And I'm not super confident that the CIA knows....for years we had no real humint sources in there....do we now?

Why on earth would you tell them what needs fixing?

They swept the "world's funniest" category, after their devastating last-place finish in the "world's most accurate" category, just behind an American paper...

Russia make simulated attack on the US, and then simply disappears from the face of the earth.
Enough, get on with the star wars defence system.

I share you're sneaking suspicicion that a trick is afoot. But, they don't have much of a Navy. They have a poor bomber fleet also- so I'm only a little paranoid of them right now.

My brother has been to Russia several times, he tells me that they are so far behind us in almost every single catagory that it's shocking.
But considering this is a story from Pravda, my guess is that the Russian navy is holding a bake sale to raise money and buy paint for their rusting ships

It wouldn't be a nitpick exercise. We'd trounce them in every area. It would be more of a "stop trying, it's pathetic" announcement.

They realy don't need to be doing this. Maybe the recent activities in Checknea (sp?) will keep them busy.
I think they should just take thier subs and ships and go find the 3 Iraqi tankers floating in the Arabian sea somewhere maintaining radio silence for over a month now and board them and get themselves exposed to all the bio and chemical agents on those ships.
No one seems to know anything about those ships... or at least no one is talking about them. Anyone???

From further down in the article:
During the exercises, the Russian troops will work on a series of training missions aimed at disabling the US' orbital surveillance satellites. This is important to order to disrupt the stable operation of the NAVSTAR global positioning system, optoelectronic surveillance Keyhole satellites and radar reconnaissance LaCross satellites.
Now how would one go about doing THAT?

Now how would one go about doing THAT? I don't know, but it would seem that is what they are worried about and not an attack by the US

A collossal waste of money. The threats to Russia are Muslim fundamentalism and populous neighbors deciding that Siberian resources are worth owning.
