State and federal wildlife agents Friday busted up what they described as a Sacramento-based ring of caviar poachers who stole sturgeon out of local waterways for at least two years and sold the fish roe for big profits.

By late Friday, authorities had arrested eight people in what they dubbed Operation Delta Beluga.

Did the moron "poach" the caviar because
he had heard that it's fish eggs?

Now they call it poaching; it used to be called "fishing".

Salmon Roe -- that is the big red ones that look like pomegranate seeds -- is my favorite sushi. Every time I get sushi, I get salmon roe and save it for last.

Caviar comes from a virgin sturgeon.
Virgin sturgeon is a very rare fish.
No good sturgeon want to be a virgin.
That's why caviar's a tasty dish.

Just a song from my misspent youth.

Supposedly, now they call it 'burglary' but they used to call it 'liberating thy neighbor's possessions.' The word 'poaching' has been around since 1611...

Main Entry: 2poach
Function: verb
Etymology: Middle French pocher, of Germanic origin; akin to Middle English poken to poke
Date: 1611
intransitive senses
1 : to encroach upon especially for the purpose of taking something
2 : to trespass for the purpose of stealing game; also : to take game or fish illegally
transitive senses
1 : to trespass on <a field poached too frequently by the amateur -- Times Literary Supplement>
2 a : to take (game or fish) by illegal methods b : to appropriate (something) as one's own

I have been around my share of what many people consider the finer things in life, but this old Texas boy never has seen what the big deal is with caviar, but so much for that.

I am also an avid fisherman who fishes Galveston Bay, and The Gulf Of Mexico in my pride, and joy The Allissa Denise. A few years ago the Redfish almost disappeared from The Gulf, so strict limits were imposed, and today the Redfish is thriving once again. If those idiots are violating the law, hang them high. BTW I am in no way any kind of enviro wacko.

Sturgeon Poaching ring busted. Just in time for the Peterson/Geragos defense. "He was trying to make some quick cash for Christmas presents, that's ALL."

Does your county board of elections know you are apparently trying to equate fraud with marketing? Or poaching with fishing?

Are you posting disinformation because you are a red? As an alleged official on a county election board, are you as flippant about voting fraud as you are about poachers defrauding other people?

Whether they act legally or illegally, you have to give caviar suppliers some slack. They have a tough roe to hoe.
